Even when I turn mouse emulation off, I still can't use the stick to aim in modern combat 4. And I can aim in max payne, but I still can't walk around. If I use the dpad I can take about a quarter step with every directional press.

OK so even though I haven't made any modifications, I went ahead and fastbooted the recovery images and my controller works fine now.

For those interested, the reason you need to disable the virtual mouse is because it appears whenever a game reports that it didn't handle the right stick. Unfortunately, some games (like Gameloft games) handle the movement event, but then report they didn't (for those who like tech info, they are returning false from their input handler for right stick events) and that causes the mouse to appear and confuse the game. That's partially why it has the disable in the quick settings.

I don't know why you had trouble with MC4 with the mouse disabled. Very strange. :-/

How do you disable mouse support for nova 3?

Sideloading the APK from another device with modern combat on it already or installing the amazon app store and buying it in there.
When it comes to sideloading the apk, that's pretty easy when rooted on the phone. I haven't rooted my current device, how can I find the apk? A file explorer?

es file explorer can create an apk backup file for just about any app, it claims its a backup anyway, I found that it does just seem to be extracting the full apk which works fine for sideloading. Does it without root too.

or you can use titanium backup app, backup the apk on another rooted device, then extract the apk using winrar, then transfer the apk to your shield and install. and you don't need root for this :good:

Although the ES file explorer method doesnt require root on either device and spits out the APK file direct which can be bluetoothed between devices or transferred with my preferred method which is a USB host adaptor and a regular microUSB cable to do direct transfer via USB between the devices which is much faster than bluetooth. Its not compatible with every single app out there though (did work with every one I tried though).

Overall though titanium backup is compatible with more apps than ES file explorer and of course has its own additional bonus features such as the titling backup.

Nova 3, Modern Combat 4, and Dungeon Hunter 4 are available for the Nvidia Shield.

For future reference .... I emailed Gameloft and sent a request to update their library for the shield.... they replied that they are already on top of it... I have emailed other developers for android games that I wanted to see supported and they "all" have been happy to accomadate.... so I will keep everyone updated with their progress if your interested in the games.... But suggest you to email the developers of android games you would like to see shield compatible, I have had a good experience with that process and in the end will expand the library of compatible games for the shield.

1.) Nova 3.... INCREDIBLE, great controls for me(I couldnt get anywhere with the touch controls lol), and best graphics I've ever seen on a mobile especially the later levels
2.) MC4.... havent played it yet but I you can get it on amazon mobile or the gameloft official website
3.) Dungeon Hunter 4 .....I have it downloaded but I'm gonna play it tonight.

As of right now Madfingers and Gameloft are my favorite android developers

Dungeon Hunter 4

Hi I have played DH4 on Shield. It works but the A button (the main attack button) doesn't work. The left stick does and the other buttons like XY and B all work but the actual A button is dead. Any idea of how to fix? game keyboard app needs root permissions to work with it so that's a no go.

Tried to backup and side load too but its only an apk fine and doesn't work.

Tincore Keymapper > Gamekeyboard

From what I have seen Tincore is way better than gamekeyboard. Why do you guys use gamekeyboard? The only thing it really has over tincore is macros, as far as I'm aware...?

Tincore is great however you have to download the APK manually - at the moment Google Play thinks Tincore is not compatible with the Shield, so you can't download it directly from the play store. However, it works fine if you adb push or sideload the apk on your shield. There is also a fix coming apparently and it will be available from the play store after that.

I have a feeling he doesn't want to root.

I agree tincore is better because it isn't an IME, or keyboard. IME apps have really bad delay. Tincore doesn't have any delay. And the fact tincore isn't an IME means you can use your regular keyboard instead of switching every time you need to type something.

hmm, I can't imagine gaming on a shield without root.

nvidia should really implement some kind of native keymapping app (like tincore, or the archos gamepad one) that doesn't require root. That's literally the only reason I rooted it.

thanks

appreciate the advice on Tincore. I have ES filer explorer and put the tin core app into a micro sd card in a folder called apps. Is this ok to install through ES?
Not massively sure about how android works (this is my first one) so will be a case of trial and error but if I can get a simple to use app that allows me to play games on my shield without Rooting that would be awesome... rooting seems complicated a grief stricken.

:D

Tincore not allowed, "root permission denied, please give permission and restart"

Crap!
:(

Yeah, as mentioned above, all existing Key>Touch mapping apps need root permissions. But otherwise, yes its safe to install .APKs from ES File Explorer no problem.

I second the idea that the Shield really needs to include something like tincore as a native feature.

oh man!

Well I tried. Looks like I stuck with the several apps I have already. It's such a shame though given how close we are to sooooo many good games.
Can't seem to side load anything though. As soon as I install and APK it loads up and immediately shuts down. It ha the unknown permissions box checked in settings and I think I followed the instructions to the letter. Doe it have to be rooted for this to work too?

Side loading should be as simple as launching the APK file. No root needed unless the app itself needs root (like tincore).

Haha I needed to pit the files manually into an obb folder.

Yep thats right, none of the tutorials explained to me that I had to manually insert other files into the Androids obb folder. How did everyone miss that key point out? Its done and it sometimes works depending on the files I use.
Thanks so far will be glad when I learn to root it and can use controller support.

Glad to see that you have figured it out :good: well like i said in my post 1 Nvidia need to have some kind of mapping feature in one of their future updates, if they do that then it will open alot of door for more android games if not all to be compatible with the shield :D meaning that will give us less headache in trying to root our devices just so we can use third party apps to manually map the controls to the screen.
And i also rooted my device so that i can move my apps to my 64GB class 10 micro SD card because my 16GB shield memory is already full.
