Hi guys!!!I use the GOOGLE STOCK PACKAGE gapps on CM11.(SIII)Unfortunately I've noticed a serious problem with the camera.(Google camera). It crashes!!!It also blocks other apps for the camera!!!How can I fix it?I need to install GOOGLE STOCK PACKAGE gapps.Thx in advance!!!Bye:confused:;)
Don't use the "Stock" Google Package on anything except a Nexus device. Use the Full Modular instead.

I'm sorry, this has probably been answered already but I'm having a hard time deciding which package to go with to match my needs on my new install of DirtyUnicorns 8.2. I hate having stuff installed I don't need, I live my day to day life the same as well. What I use from GAPPS are:

gmail
hangouts
play
bookmarks sync
calendar sync
maps

I have never tried the google keyboard or google camera so I am not sure if those would be any better than stock/AOSP on my Galaxy S4 or not.

Many thanks for any advice on which package to install.
Based on your requirements, Nano or Micro would do the job fine, and just grab what's left over from the Play Store.

I use the stock gapps with cm11 all the time, but I don't install Google Camera.

See post #4 in this thread for advanced options ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44417558) and instructions to prevent installation of Google Camera when installing stock gapps.

You can use stock gapps on non-Nexus devices. I use it all the time with CM11 on Droid RAZR Maxx, but I don't install Google Camera.

Shell GApps Beta Testing to Resume Tomorrow

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the problems with the early Shell GApps betas has been resolved, thanks to some AMAZING detective work by @mikeoswego! I am adding in a new 'debug' feature to make finding these types of issues easier in the future, and should have a new round of betas (with fully updated apps!) ready for testing tomorrow.

I'd also like to thank my partner in crime, @osm0sis, for his counsel and helping with testing and trying to source the problem. Also, a special thanks to @drewski_1, @zadigre and, of course, @mikeoswego for the recent private beta tests they've been conducting.

So, get your nandroids ready and check back tomorrow for all new betas.

Since Gapps we use from this topic are compatible across most of AOSP ROMs out there, do we have anything for lollipop ROMs?

PA GApps 2.0 Now Available for Testing

PA GApps 2.0 is all-new and completely re-writen from the ground up in Shell Script. By using Shell Script instead of the limited edify binary normally found in zip-based installers, we are able to add in all sorts of new features to give you COMPLETE control over your GApps installation.

Below is a detailed list of all of the changes and new features that are built into the new PA GApps installer. The post after this one provides a detailed list of all the configuration options that are available for configuring your GApps installation to your particular device or preference.

  1. Gapps config file is now called .gapps-config or gapps-config.txt (.gapps-config is preferred and will take precedence)
    - Config file may be placed in the same folder as the GApps zip or in /sdcard/PA-GApps (zip folder will take precedence)
    - All possible GApps install options are handlded by this single file.
  2. You can now choose the apps you WANT installed (Include Install) or the apps you DON'T WANT installed (default behavior) (Exclude Install). To select ONLY the apps you WANT installed, all you need to do is add the word 'Include' to your gapps-config file. The installer will now install ONLY THOSE APPS you have listed in your gapps-config. The Stock/AOSP removals function works the same whether you're doing an Include or Exclude Install.
  3. New 'pa_gapps_log.txt' is MUCH more readable and informative and contains more diagnostic information to help troubleshoot GApps. A GApps Installation Chart with detailed information is also included to help users select apps to remove. Plus, there is clear information detailing any issues the installer ancountered during installation.
    - 'pa_gapps_log.txt' log is automatically copied to the same folder as gapps-config, or if gapps-config is not used, the same folder as the installer zip.
    - I am going to REQUIRE that ALL problems/question with a GApps install MUST include this file.
  4. Google Email will now be included in Google Stock GApps and will replace the Stock/AOSP version of email (see below for further details)
  5. Google Camera, Google Email, and Google Keyboard can only be installed for the FIRST TIME during a 'Clean' install (data wiped)
    - Updates to an existing System (GApps) installation will also install fine
    - User can still freely update these apps from the Play Store and have the GApps installer update them later with the next GApps update.
    - This change is made to prevent FC's and Play Store issues that often occur when these apps are installed in System partition AFTER a ROM has been set up.
    - Installer will also bypass the automatic removal of the Stock/AOSP Camera, Email, or Keyboard if the above 'Clean/Update' criteria is not met.
  6. Installs of Google Keyboard, Google Camera, Google Email, and Google Calendar all REQUIRE that the Stock/AOSP version of these apps MUST BE REMOVED to prevent problems when both are installed in system partition. If you wish to retain use of both versions, you will need to install them from the Play Store.
  7. Added a new 'Debug' mode. By placing the word 'Debug' in your gapps-config, the installer will create pa_gapps_debug_info.tar.gz in the same folder as 'pa_gapps_log.txt'. This compressed file will contain a set of files that will help the devs troubleshoot any problems you might experience with the install. It's also very easy to attach this file to any post here in the support thread.
  8. Added a new 'Preset' option. You can now 'downsize' any gapps package to one of its 'little brothers' by adding it's name followed by 'gapps' to your gapps-config.
    - For instance, you could change Stock GApps to Mini GApps by adding 'MiniGApps' to your gapps-config
    - ALL BEHAVIOR OF THE INSTALLER WILL NOW BE TRANSFORMED TO THE NEW PRESET, including default removals and applications available for install.
  9. Added a new 'Simulated Install' option. By placing the word 'Test' in your gapps-config, the installer will perform a simulated installation and generate the log files, but WILL NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR DEVICE.
  10. If you want to install Google Gallery, but don't have a Nexus device (Nexus devices are handled automatically) you will need to specify which Nexus device's files you would like to install. You do this by placing 'ForceGalleryxxxxx' in your gapps-config (see gapps-config instructions for complete details).
  11. Google Stock GApps Changes:
    - Although the Stock/AOSP Browser, Calendar, Launcher, MMS, and PictoTTS are still replaced by default with their Google counterparts, they will no longer be automatically removed if you choose not to install the Google app counterpart (i.e. if you elect NOT to install Chrome, then the Stock/AOSP Browser will not be automatically removed, although you can still add it to gapps-config to force its removal).
    - To bypass the automatic removal of the Stock/AOSP Browser, Launcher, MMS, or PicoTTS apps you simply add '+Browser', '+Launcher', '+MMS', or '+PicoTTS' to your gapps-config.
  12. Google Bookmarks Sync will automatically be installed if:
    - the Stock/AOSP Browser is NOT being removed
    - 'BkSync' is NOT in gapps-config
    - OR, on an 'Include Install'(see #2 above), when you add 'BkSync' to gapps-config
  13. Google Calendar Sync will automatically be installed if:
    - Google Calendar is NOT being installed
    - 'CalSync' is NOT in gapps-config
    - OR, on an 'Include Install'(see #2 above), when you add 'CalSync' to gapps-config
  14. Old Stock and Full GApps would bypass the installation of Chrome Browser if there was insufficient space in System Partition. New GApps no longer does this, giveing you the opportunity to decide what apps you want removed if your device is unable to install the complete GApps package or the apps you've selected.
  15. You can now freely change among PA GApps packages without having to do a system wipe. However, this will mean that ALL Addon modules, with the exception of the Chrome Beta Addon Module, will need to be reinstalled with EVERY GApps install.
  16. "Protection from Stupidity" is now built into the GApps Installer. To prevent you from accidentally leaving yourself with no keyboard, Launcher, or MMS app when you start your device, the installer WILL NOT ALLOW you to remove the Stock/AOSP Keyboard, Launcher, or MMS app if you are not also installing the Google version of these apps. You do, however, have the ability to override this protection (see gapps-config instructions for complete details).

COMPLETE List of all PA GApps Configuration Options

To modify the default behavior of the GApps installer, place a text file called .gapps-config or gapps-config.txt (.gapps-config is preferred and will take precedence) in the same folder as the GApps zip or in /sdcard/PA-GApps (zip folder will take precedence).

  • You can perform a test installation that will simulate an install, by adding Test to your gapps-config. The installer will perform all system space calculations and generate a detailed pa_gapps_log.txt, but WILL NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES to your device. This should be helpful for trying to find just the right combination of apps that will work with your particular device.
    `
  • Adding Debug to your gapps-config will generate pa_gapps_debug_info.tar.gz, a compressed file that contains a set of files to help the devs troubleshoot any problems you might experience with the install. Use of this option is highly recommended during the BETA phase. This file can be attached to any post on XDA, making it easy for you to provide the devs important information to help troubleshoot your issue. You will find pa_gapps_debug_info.tar.gz in the same folder as your pa_gapps_log.txt.
    `
  • You can use Presets with any GApps package. This allows you to downsize any GApps package to one of its 'little brothers' by adding one of the following options to your gapps-config. This will transform ALL INSTALLER BEHAVIOR (including application removals) - effectively turning it into a new GApps package.
    Valid options are:
FullGApps - To downsize the following package to Full Modular GApps. [Stock]
MiniGApps - To downsize any of the following packages to Mini Modular GApps. [Stock/Full]
MicroGApps - To downsize any of the following packages to Micro Modular GApps. [Stock/Full/Mini]
NanoGApps - To downsize any of the following packages to Nano Modular GApps. [Stock/Full/Mini/Micro]
PicoGApps - To downsize any of the following packages to Pico Modular GApps. [Stock/Full/Mini/Micro/Nano]
  • You can choose either the apps you WANT installed (Include Install) or the apps you DON'T WANT installed (Exclude Install - default behavior). To select ONLY the apps you WANT installed, add the word 'Include' to your gapps-config file. The installer will now install ONLY THOSE APPS you have listed in your gapps-config. The Stock/AOSP removals function (below) works the same whether you're doing an Include or Exclude Install.

Type the name of the application you want to Exclude/Include inside your gapps-config file.
    Valid options are:
Books - To Exclude/Include Google Play Books [Stock/Full]
BkSync - To Exclude/Include Google Bookmarks Sync (installed by default when Stock/AOSP Browser is NOT removed) [Stock/Full/Mini/Micro/Nano/Pico]
    CalendarGoogle - To Exclude/Include Google Calendar [Stock/Full/Mini/Micro]
CalSync - To Exclude/Include Google Calendar Sync (installed by deault when Google Calendar is NOT being installed) [Stock/Full/Mini/Micro/Nano/Pico]
CameraGoogle - To Exclude/Include Google Camera [Stock]
    Chrome - To Exclude/Include Chrome Browser [Stock/Full]
    CloudPrint - To Exclude/Include Cloud Print [Stock/Full]
    Drive - To Exclude/Include Google Drive [Stock/Full]
Ears - To Exclude/Include Sound Search for Google Play [Stock/Full]
    Earth - To Exclude/Include Google Earth [Stock/Full]
EmailGoogle - To Exclude/Include Email [Stock]

  • To manage the removal of certain Stock/AOSP applications type the name of the application inside your gapps-config file.
    Valid options are:
Browser - To remove the Stock/AOSP Browser
CalendarStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Calendar Application (automatically removed when Google Calendar is installed)
CameraStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Camera Application (automatically removed when Google Camera is installed)
EmailStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Email Application (automatically removed when Google Email is installed)
ExchangeStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Exchange Services (automatically removed when Google Email is installed)
GalleryStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Gallery (automatically removed when Google Gallery is installed)
KeyboardStock - To remove the Stock/AOSP Keyboard (automatically removed when Google Keyboard is installed)
    Launcher - To remove the Stock/AOSP Launcher(s)
MMS - To remove the Stock/AOSP SMS Application
PicoTTS - To remove the Stock/AOSP PicoTTS
Studio - To remove the Stock/AOSP Movie Studio Application

NOTE: The default behavior for Google Stock GApps (only) has changed slightly. The installer will no longer automatically remove the Stock/AOSP application if its Google counterpart is NOT being installed. For example, if you are NOT installing Hangouts, then the Stock MMS app will NOT automatically be removed (although you can still force its removal by adding it to your gapps-config). The same is true for Google Camera|Stock Camera, Google Email|Stock Email, Google Keyboard|Stock Keyboard, Google Gallery|Stock Gallery, Google Now Launcher|Stock Launcher, GoogleTTS|PicoTTS, and Google Calendar|Stock Calendar.

To bypass the default removal of certain Stock/AOSP apps when using Google Stock GApps, type the name of the app preceded by a '+' as shown below:
+Browser - To bypass the automatic removal of Stock/AOSP Browser [Stock ONLY]
+Launcher - To bypass the automatic removal of Stock/AOSP Launcher(s) [Stock ONLY]
+MMS - To bypass the automatic removal of Stock/AOSP SMS Application [Stock ONLY]
+PicoTTS - To bypass the automatic removal of the Stock/AOSP PicoTTS app [Stock ONLY]
  • * If you have a Nexus device and have elected to install Google Gallery (GalleryGoogle), the installer will automatically determine the proper files to install for your device. However, if you do NOT have a Nexus device and wish to install Google Gallery, you MUST place one of the following options in your gapps-config to tell the installer which files to install. Failure to do so will result in Google Gallery not being installed.
ForceGalleryHammerhead - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Nexus 5
ForceGalleryFlo - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Nexus 7 (2013)
ForceGalleryDeb - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Nexus 7 LTE (2013)
ForceGalleryMako - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Nexus 4
ForceGalleryManta - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Nexus 10
ForceGalleryTuna - Instructs the GApps installer to install GoogleGallery files for the Galaxy Nexus
  • Note: "Protection from Stupidity" is now built into the GApps Installer. To prevent you from accidentally leaving yourself with no keyboard, Launcher, or MMS app when you start your device, the installer WILL NOT ALLOW you to remove the Stock/AOSP Keyboard, Launcher, or MMS app if you are not also installing the Google version of these apps. You can, however, override this protection by adding Override[/COLOR] to your gapps-config. Be very careful when using this option and make certain you'll have the required app already installed on your device before using this option.

[HIGHLIGHT]Note:[/HIGHLIGHT] Case, order, spaces, or using separate lines does not matter when using gapps-config.

PA GApps 2.0 RC2 Download Information & Links

RELEASE CANDIDATE 2 Now Available (20141114)
Below are download links for Release Candidate 2 of the new PA GApps 2.0 Installer. For the pupposes of beta testing, there will be one installer - Google Stock GApps - however, you can use this single installer to install any of the other GApps packages normally found here (see instructions in post above to 'transform' the installer to one of the smaller GApps packages). Once the final product is released, all GApps packages will be made available.

Extensive testing has been done with the new installer and have it has been found to be working exactly as detailed in the posts above. However, there is still the possibility that certain devices or recoveries may not be 100% compatible, so - make certain you backup your device - before trying this. It is also highly recommended to add 'debug' to your gapps-config during the testing phase. That way, should you experience any problems, you can share your pa_gapps_debug_info.tar.gz file to help diagnose any potential problems.

You'll notice that the installer has grown about 60-70MB over the previous versions of GApps. This is almost all due to the inclusion of all versions of Google Play Services, which means that you will have the PROPER version of Google Play Services installed on your device without the need to use a separate 'Updater' as in the past.

The installer also includes the following updates since the release of the 1110 GApps:

All feedback is welcome and appreciated. It's critical that as wide a variety of devices and recoveries be tested before final release. If you notice ANYTHING unusual in your pa_gapps_log.txt, or even if you don't understand something, please feel free to post your questions. It's likely that others may have the same questions, too. And now....... On with the show!
