and not just noise reduction, there would be lighting, color reproduction, details in shadows, etc etc.

If a picture only consisted of how well details are reproduced, then maybe manual mode might be somewhat comparable. But last I looked, there's a bit more to a picture than just details.
Hi
Have you ever compared manual video with high bitrate selected to the Pitbull Gcam?

No, I have not, Video of the stock camera does a great job so I don't even consider using anything else.
Stock camera is good enough but it's far from perfect. The colors are overblown. It often underexposes shots, especially when there is high dynamic range. And it lacks details in low light shots.
Especially videos in low light are bad, they're too dark in auto mode. You can use manual mode but then you need to adjust brightness manually which isn't ideal in many situations.

Gcam on the other hand is also far from perfect and all ports seem to have some issues. It's too unreliable when it comes to pulling out your phone and just taking a quick snap. HDR and Nightsight takes too long and while it often delivers better results than stock, it sometimes delivers terrible pictures.

Right now I use both and both don't deliver satisfactory results. It's a shame really, out of all LG devices since 2017 the V40 is the only one with hardly any Gcam support unless you root and install that fix (and loose warranty).

Well, I have no concern about voiding warranty, the phone can always be re-locked and lgup to open stock if a return is actually needed.

I"ve found that with the 'buffer fix' applied, there are certainly some gcam ports (especially PitBull) that do a great job, they do good nightsight shots, astro shots, etc. Can use all 3 back cams also.

I personally wouldn't own a phone that a good gcam port wasn't available for... and I'm very happy with the V40.

I think you need to register your phone when you want to unlock. You basically agree to the loss of warranty. I'm not going to risk my remaining 18 months of Amazon warranty for gcam. However the amounts of ads everywhere are mindblowing, this is my first phone without Root+Adaway in 5+ years.

What? register when u want to unlock? No, there is no such requirement for the V40. Sounds like you are referring to 'Officially' unlock the phone, register and receive the unlock.bin from them. V40 is NOT officially unlockable.

Warranty service is ALWAYS a tricky thing, I've read of people being denied service for all kinds of various reasons; 'Water Damage' being very common, while the owner swears up and down it's never been wet...

I've also read of people who have unlocked their bootloaders, had an issue, re-locked and still received warranty service. It seems it's 'hit or miss', no way to be sure.

I personally could never live with all those ads, not a chance in a million. I'd prefer to take my chances on a warranty issue not being fixed than live without adaway and magisk and gcam. But, as always, 'To Each Their Own'...

Ive just been experimenting with 4K30 video with the stock manual mode, i was only really using 1080p before
I dont know if its just me but it seems it doesnt look any better than 1080p30
Here are links to each short video clip.

1080p30
https://youtu.be/s6ekYEIYnG0

4K30
https://youtu.be/ipn79seChws

Both in manual mode 30fps with high bitrate selected. No manual adjustments were made. Clips were unedited and rendered through Davinci resolve

Could i have some opinions on whether or not you can see a difference between the 2 in quality please?

Hi,
using Gcam with "buffer fix", you are able to take pictures "immediatly", or you must wait 1 about second ( or more ) ?

I'm using Gcam with Fu24... version, great pictures, but i need to set 9/12 frames, not more, o waiting time for each shot is too long ...

And also, Reinit camera session is needed with "buffer fix" ?
Thx !

The Gcam app, whether you're using a port of it, or it's stock with a pixel phone, you have to wait for the processing. That's just the way it is, because the quality google phone pictures are a result of software processing, not the hardware.

The reinit, from what I remember, wasn't a problem, I just left it to whatever the default was set to, don't remember having to wait for it to re-init.

cheers

Strange, because on my LG V40 with A9, no root, Gcam works only with Reinit ON ( Fu24... ) .
My wife's phone is an old Nokia 7+, but here Gcam take a picture immediatly with 36 frames ( in background need seconds to complete the work ) ; in my V40, when i take a picture with only 9 frames, i must wait about 1 second ( circle working on video ) , if i set 36 frames .... i wait about 30 seconds till phone is ready to take a new picture.... :(

Interesting, I don't have experience with a vast # of phones and gcam, but just returned a pixel 4a, and it had about the same amount or processing time as the V40 has.

As far as # of frames goes, I think it's overkill when using more than 10, when I've compared results it was almost impossible to see a significant difference with larger amounts. Especially unnecessary if yer not doing extreme cropping on a regular basis. So, if I have a pic I want to get a lot of dynamic range / detail and realistic saturation in, use gcam, if not, use regular cam. Works for me.

cheers

Side load Blokada - it is as good as Adaway, probably better, and no root required - that's what I use on my V40, and I had previously used root + Adaway for many years as well!

I tired that not long ago... iirc there's quite a bit of configuration needed to get it to work with lte data? I didn't have any success but then again, didn't try too hard.

Do you have it blocking mobile or just wifi? Mind sharing what you did to get it to work with mobile if it is?

thnx
