ok, the normal pixel binning is all the time
the new Adaptive Pixel Binning works dynamic and pixel binning is only in low light scenes activate

my fault, i thought the 9 pro supports this

it is possible to disable pixel binning on custom roms ?
pixel binning is only a software feature or not ?
You cannot disable pixel binning without the stock camera software.

Correct, it's a software feature. The default configuration is pixel binning and the software adds the ability to disable the binning. Without the stock software, it's currently not possible to remove the binning.
ok so the sensor sends only 12mp and not the real 48 mp to the camera app ?
i thought the sensor sends always 48mp to the app and the app reduces it to 12mp :)

The firmware in the camera is programmed to shoot at 12MP using pixel binning. I don't know if the software is upscaling that output or overriding the setting but I would assume it's the latter based on my own usage of the feature seeing how upscaling would add noticeable blur that doesn't exist.

ok thx, but why ? to reduce CPU utilization ?
all photo modifications in software should be the best way to get the best result

f.e. on my standalone camera i only use raw and make all modifications at the computer
Why? Because you get better signal to noise ratio (=better quality), which is the whole point of binning. It's not the same as software downscaling.

Uhh... what do you mean best results? Pixel binning and RAW format are not exclusive. On the contrary, RAWs you get are ALWAYS binned.
i mean on my standalone camera i use the full resolution with raw (pure sensor data) and make all changes, brightness, noise reduction... with photoshop

and with pixel binning, raw is not the pure sensor data on mobile phones

Well your standalone camera doesn't have binning right? Of course it's better to use full resolution instead of downscaled photos

yes no binning, pixel binning only a mobile phone "feature" cause the very small sensors with high megapixel
Why put the quotation marks? It's a useful feature. By joining multiple pixels you get better quality, and that's what you want to use in lower than ideal light conditions. In perfectly good lighting you can get the benefit of full resolution (in stock camera). The fact that the manufacturer's software tuning is trash, which makes the full-res basically useless, is a whole another story.

cause it were a useful feature if it were optional for newbies and not fix for all
professional user want the original pure picture and want to make all changes self

standalone cameras have a newbie mode (all things automatic) and a professional mode with only pure sensor data

You're kinda whining over nothing. Like you said yourself, it's a phone with a very small sensor, and binning gives you better quality. RAW is still there for those who want the flexibility in post processing. An option to switch to full res RAW with GCam would have been even better to have as an added alternative.

However, having GCam with thousand-and-one adjustments so you can fine tune everything is awesome. To be honest I'd take this binned RAW (with merging) from GCam over the single frame RAW from stock cam any time of the day, even if stock RAW was full-res.

Hello, did anyone notice battery drain beacuse of GCam? When I uninstalled LMC I think my battery drain is less noticable. Anyone with similiar observation?

thats the point, only real raw, full resolution, is useful.
thats give you the best results, not the binning of the cam
the binning raw is useless

Thank you for keeping the thread alive @Arcide

I would say this cam takes much better/sharper portrait pics than stock one (even the one on oos 11). In general pictures of faces are significantly less flat and grainy/noisy than those taken with stock cam.

On the other hand it's not as convenient to use as the stock one. If you let's say go to a trip with little kids (that are not really willing to stay still and pose ;) ) and take a lot of pics, change lenses quickly then you may find switching between the lenses and saving pictures way too slow. In order to be able to chose another lens you have to wait couple of seconds untill the last pic is processed/saved. (Maybe i had chosen hi res photos hence long processing time.)
Long processing time is normal because of high frame count. You can switch to HDR+ Enhanced and lower frames to 7, but of course that will lower the quality. Yes stock is faster and everything works seamlessly, but much lower quality of photos.

    Thanks!

Should I be using the snapcam or regular version?
Generally best to use snapcam, but I've discovered that versions with package name containing "GoogleCamera" also work fine (for aux lenses). That's at least for me on OOS11.

A working Gcam for our phone, because we deserve it:
    (always use this version: org.codeaurora.snapcam)

Compared to the stock camera, the shutter is faster and the colours are somewhat more vibrant. Haven't had a chance to compare night modes yet.

If you have an XML setup to recommend, please do share.
