Question gcam port

Search This thread
Hi,
I did test of both gcams, nikita version is doing way better photos in low lights - I used same setting, 100% jpg compression quality etc...

See crops from big photo, my old Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s is used as reference because its doing best photos, even its 3 years old...
I was just saying that the BSG has more working video options by default (e.g. 4k). I never compared the two for photos. The only thing I compared were photos from Nikita and Samsung's app in low light (Nikita wins hands down) and in bright sunlight (where Samsung's was more color accurate and has just a bit more detail).

Your info is good to know, though. Hopefully as more people start using the phone and the GCam apps are optimised for it the photo quality will improve. It is still very soon to tell.

I added Samsung default camera photo to the comparison...

that's possible but it make no sense to me, as google cam is preserving more data thanks to better HDR and lower jpeg compression, I make some test tomorrow on bright light, I am not arguing just wondering how its possible :)
The detail level was basically the same. The big difference was the color processing. Colors in the Samsung app were more true-to-life.

Actually I meant "why the last APK in the BSG list?", you know, from these:

Only some package names can use all the cameras and features. Every brand and on every phone it's different. That's why they release the apks with different package names. I don't know which names do work on the A52, but I took this one, because it works on other Samsung phones with Android 11 too.

In the new version from BSG it's possible to save and load configs. So if someone found out good settings, please post it here so we can compare them

To get everything out of the gcam mods, we need to do a little trial and error of the many settings and test them in as many conditions as possible. As I wrote in the last post, you can now save and load configs. So we can experiment and send us the settings. I have here a version that worked best in my test environment. But there are many other possible settings. Some notes about the changes: SlibP Custom lib, some settings in "Additional modules settings" (much more to try out there, that's the main place to play around), activated instantaneous hdr+ enhanced (hdr+ enhanced but without loading time, but viewfinder lags a little bit while rendering the final image because of the phone's performance.
Location to place config file: \Download\MGC.8.1.101_Configs
Used Gcam version: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/f/dl16/

anyone got GCam working on A52s? On mine, several GCam builds installs and even opens. But then crashes/freezes after few seconds, so not usable at all. If it has 778g then GCam should work, right?

Edit: BSG works if you select Session of photo modes as EISv3/61448 or even EISv2/61444 for main back lens. Other lenses (ultrawide, macro and front) don't work. So with main lens atleast you can take somewhat better picture than awful Samsung's default processing. Its still disappointing because there are many other good builds of gcam but for some reason they don't work on A52s, but would work on A52 it seems, from looking around forums.

Has anyone found out why many gcam work on A52 but not on A52s?

I found a version that works with every camera if you set the photo mode as 61448 or 61444

Thank you thank you thank you.

How did you know you had to change it? Do you have any idea what these values mean, and which one is best?

I initially read over your comment, because I could not find that configuration option. In the MGC_8.3.252_V0e it is under Settings|Photo modes session config|Session ID, but for instance in Gcam-8.1.101.build-V6.2.211013 from Arnova8G2 it is under Settings|Advanced|Stream Config|Enable OPMode and then set it for Main.

But I ended up using MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1u where the configuration is stored in yet another location, here is the recipe I used now to get GCam working on the A52s:

- Download and install
I picked the ruler package name version
- Load luke-A52-BSG-GV1.xml from the configs section of the URL above (location of file does not matter, double tap next to shutter button and select it).
- Now you have a camera app that freezes up after 3 seconds on A52s (you can still take pictures before that freeze)
- Go to the Settings, then
Modules
Back (1.0)
Session of photo modes (near the bottom of the list)
and enter the value 61444
Then do the same for
Settings / Modules / Back (0.5) / Session of photo modes / 61444
Settings / Modules / Front (1.0) / Session of photo modes / 61444
(I don't think the Back 1.1 and Front 0.8 do anything, so I don't think they need changing)

And presto working GCam with all camera's working on A52s.
Works for me

(as I say there, I still think the instructions above are valid personally)
Once again another Thank You very much!!!
The details you give above worked for me also on my A52s -- Running Android 12 and UI 4.0.
Still testing but so far it is working.

Is anyone aware of a working gcam port?

    thanks

I'm still getting better results during the day with the default camera app, though.
I can also confirm that BSG's version works better for me with video, including 4k.

Samsung default camera app is quite poor in low light :)
