I'm confused about front camera support. Some people said it stopped working because Samsung killed RAW support in an update, then I heard someone found a workaround. But then it seemed unclear if that workaround was just for Exynos editions and required root... I'm trying to get to the bottom of this as I'm deciding between a used snapdragon S10 or LG G8 (where everything works perfectly with Gcam), and a working gcam is high on my priority list.
(and no, I don't want to just buy a pixel, before someone suggests that again lol)

If you are trying to pick the best Snapdragon 855 device for GCam, I would actually suggest the OnePlus 7 Pro. The IMX586 is probably the best widely available sensor that so many GCam developers have access to that it is probably as optimized as a Pixel now. Plus it is a better sensor than what's in the S10 and G8.

To answer your original question, the workaround for front camera in Snapdragon Galaxy phones is on BSG... but it doesn't support HDR because no RAW. Thus the majority of the time it'll look worse than stock camera. There's no point trying to get a Snapdragon Galaxy with GCam if you want it for the front camera (with the exception of the S20 FE).

So the S20 Ultra Snapdragon, which one works best? (and which XML)
Opinions anyone?
I'm getting the phone this week, so may as well be prepared ;)

After reading through various posts and threads regarding Gcam on S20 I am still puzzled what exactly is working and what isn't.

What I used to have:
- Galaxy S10 Exynos with LOS 17.1, ZGCAM and modified "libexynoscamera3.so": => Front, Back, Wide, Tele working perfectly with zgcam 7.4 and 6.1

I recently bought a
- Galaxy S20 5G Exynos with Stock Firmware, MGC_8.1.101_A9_PV0n: => Front, Back, Wide working perfectly with gcam 8.1; TELE is not working !

Is there a way to get telephoto working on S20 Exynos e.g. by modified lib ?
Will the situation change if I switch to LOS 18.1 ?

Thx in advance for any clarification.

Cheers.

Hey, did you ever figure something out? I have the same issue - just got an S20 Ultra Exynos with stock OneUI 4.1, but the telephoto camera does not seem to work with BSG/Wichaya/Zoran/Arnova... I've specifically tried camera IDs 20, 21, 23, 50, 52, 80 with Zoran's ZGCAM 7.4 (com.samsung.android.scan3d signature), but they all either give a black screen or crash.

For S20 Exynos I did not find any working solution for the telephoto. Only Front, Back and Wide are working.
My next phone will be definitely no Samsung anymore as it they become increasingly useless in terms of custom roms due to their proprietary drivers. (No raw access to cameras, no 5G support, no VOLTE and no VOWIFI)

Has anyone managed to get Telephoto to work for 4k video recording on an S20/plus Snapdragon running Android 11? The original post doesn't seem to reflect Burial camera anymore which apparently was the one version along with xml....but seems to have no more reference. Tried all versions of Burial Gcam but none seem to run at all. Also recording 4k video on any gcam version regardless of bitrate changing always seems pretty inferior to stock app. The noise reduction and sharpening seems pretty bad....which seems bad on all 3rd party apps. Cleanest seems to be the stock app.

Gcam for the telephoto S20/plus seems to be a great 3x telephoto option as it is very detailed and offers raw binned 16MP. It's cropped but there is virtually no detail loss for 16MP image.

I have tried various GCam on my S20+ 5g SD and can't get any to work well, so it asked me if this thread should be active; I do not see that there are comments or useful contributions for anyone.

For S20 Exynos I did not find any working solution for the telephoto.
Up, as the latest Zoran ZGCam hasn't been mentioned since its release 9 months ago...

On my Exynos S20 Ultra: Zoran 7.4 3415 (from 2022-04-26) works fine for the three back camera (UW, W and telephoto). But front doesn't work since Android 13. Apk download on his page, and I'm using this XML config file for S20 Ultra enabling all three back cameras (from the first post on page 1).
I have to disable "Settings / Framing hints" otherwise the app freeze after a couple seconds.

Put the XML config file in GCam/Configs7, then double tap the black area around the shutter button to get in the config loading menu.
Video works fine on UW and W, not on the telephoto.

Comparison of Samsung camera (left) with ZGCam (right) in interior with evening lighting. Note that SCam refuses to use the telephoto until zooming at 10x, giving a garbage image. Stupid decision from the maker in my opinion. The color are also more accurate on ZGCam - SCam is giving a much too bright scene, especially on the telephoto.

Another comparison at 5x, Samsung's Camera app still refusing to use the telephoto, giving a very noisy and pixelized result. The shooting position is the same, but the offset between the two cameras change a bit the perspective.

Even better: Hasli's LMC8.4_R15. There's no config file needed.
  • Install, then instructions found on Reddit:
  • To get telephoto and ultra wide cameras:
    1. Settings > Additional cameras > Toggle "Tele camera" and "Wide camera" toggles
    2. Settings > Additional cameras > List ID manually, there:
    3. enable BOTH toggles ("Use listed IDs" and "Use given values")
    4. in "List ID manually", write: 0,1,2,52
    5. in individual IDs, set: Main Camera 0 Tele Camera 3 Wide Camera 2 ID4 Camera 4 ID5 Camera 5 Front Main lens 1
  • To get the Pro button: Settings > Processing functions > Viewfinder settings > PRO Mode (toggle to enable)
  • Optical stabilisation: settings/LMC take/optical stabilisation
On my S20 Ultra Exynos, the front camera is still not working, but all back cameras are working - even video in 4k on the telephoto.
Has anyone managed to get Telephoto to work for 4k video recording on an S20/plus Snapdragon running Android 11?
On Android 13, Hasli's LMC8.4_R15 does 4K video on the tele, yes.
