Recommends of good apps?

Sent from LGE XDA phone
while this is a good idea, this is a little too broad. if this can be narrowed down several specific categories (i.e. file managers), i would be more than happy to include this.
Other information that I think are worth mentioning

- To change the baseband easily without having to do full wipe :)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530
this is already included in mihir287's general FAQs. one purpose of this thread is to cover what mihir hasnt covered. he is covering frequently asked questions and im covering tips and tricks.
anything about baseband belongs best in his thread, not mine. but thanks for the suggestion :)

This thread should come with a disclaimer that not all tweaks work equally on all roms/kernels and may in fact make things worse depending on rom/kernel combo.

I view build.prop and init.d scripts as experts only. Sure it's easy to copy and paste them into any rom but it takes a lot of knowledge to determine whether it's necessary.

For example, look at all the roms posted by relative noobs. They include v6, loopyblahblah and a random selection of knzos tweaks and scripts. Now take a look at the most recent rom posted by knowledgeable developer doktornotor (RIP we miss you!!) he didn't include a lot. Why, because CM7 is already extremely optimized and francos kernel is insanely optimized specifically for the 01. All the battery drain, FCs and general instability are often linked to an unneeded tweak or Pokemon theme that UOT butchered. More often than not, less is more.
If you're running a rom based on stock LG and an earlier or less modified kernel then some of the build.prop and vm tcp and other tweaks can benefit you IF you know what you're doing.

My current setup:

Rom - stripped down version of mik_os CM7 6.5.7 @ 480/768 SmartassV2
kernel - ZackS Venice 3.4 (fork of francos kernel including fserve and Paulos tweaks)

build.prop tweak
Code:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=120
init.d scripts - added remount and zipalign. Removed "05mountsd" since I don't have an ext partition and I removed zram.

I also added knzos gps tweaks and lowered wifi txpower to 18. I've included the patched libsqlite.so and soundfx libs

Tweaks I'm testing - microSD card speed tweak (I'm still playing with the value). I have a class 6 card and I think this is a keeper. If however I was using the included class 2 card I don't think I'd use this tweak or at least not the suggested 2048 value.

This setup has no bugs (other than those on miks known list) it's fast, smooth, stable and battery life is good. If this setup is not enough, consider buying a faster phone or getting your head checked

With regards to the poll I'd suggest you replace openoptimus with 2.2.x based and 2.3.3 based stock roms. There are lot of variations out there but in the end they're really all the same give or take an app/tweak/script.

i have asked for it to be deleted as the poll cannot be edited. instead, i have included a "roms and kernels recommended by other users" in the second post

launchers will be added to the second post. anyone have any suggestions? if you do, please share it based on these two factors: customization and performance/speed (or both)

custom recoveries also added. please share your recovery of choice and why you picked it (if you can also say the pros and cons of your recovery, that would be awesome :p)

init.d scripts - added remount and zipalign. Removed "05mountsd" since I don't have an ext partition and I removed zram.
Actually, auto-zipaligner is kind of useless as well.

System applications are already zipaligned by default (be it on CM or cooked ROM) and they won't get "unzipaligned". As for /data applications since they're usually downloaded from market, they are zipaligned as well (market does it).

CyanogenMOD doesn't have tweaks for one simple reason: they aim for stability, not performance. Same goes for LG stock ROMs. They include values that have been already tested and known to work.

So, the fact it doesn't have more tweaks doesn't mean it's because they **** it up, no. It's because it's not tuned for performance.

Now, this doesn't mean that we should hack the **** out of ROMs, change the VM values, the oom task killing process, the minfree and what not. It means that we must have the patience to test them properly and reach a conclusion.

Correction... Ting Ting Ting Ting!!!! Is Franco.kernel v1/v1.1 Testing:rolleyes::rolleyes:
lol thanks :p
aside from corrections, does anyone have any tips, tricks, or recommendations?

UPDATE: after pulling the xml files from each system app and looking through each of them, i found two other secret codes:
*#*#8350#*#* (disable voice dialer logging)
*#*#8351#*#* (enable voice dialer logging)

I used amonra on g1 but because the filesyatem has gone from amend to edify, nearly all roms are using editify with exception to megatron or devoid froyo final. I like CWM for the mere fact of being compiled in structured menu's and having a reboot recovery is nice something you don't see in amonra. I already know I can make a custom recovery to include reboot recovery as an option to amonra but I don't have a computer. I've not used that recovery from teamwin though but I've heard it has to many problems with our devicedevice

custom recoveries also added. please share your recovery of choice and why you picked it (if you can also say the pros and cons of your recovery, that would be awesome :p)

When testing the zipalign script I set it to keep all logs and not overwrite the last log. A couple weeks later I went through the logs and found that it did pickup a few. I have a handful of XDA apps it must have been them ;) You're right though, it's one I could do without.

I 100% agree. I think I wrote that post out of frustration after yet another spin off rom with the loopy script had appeared in the dev section.

P.S. It's great to see you posting in the 01 forums again! :D

Some tips: If you can, use GSM(2g) or WCDMA(3G) only when needed. it's because they dont poll so much like GSM Auto(PRL), so better battery(sometimes) and performance.

As our device have only a 600Mhz, using Performance governor is also as it doesn't poll for load etc , thus increasing performance and maintaining battery life.

Well i don't think it's accurate, but they work for me;)

are you talking about using 2g when you dont need 3g? if so, thats already in one of the battery links. but i really appreciate your contributions :D

now including apps to the post. thanks to DaxElectro for the idea :p
