The serial # is on the inside of the sd port cover.
Mine is a little worn.

It appears to be two rows with eight digits per row.
The first eight are clearly legible. Of the remaining eight, only five digits are legible.

Anywhere else?

Where can I find the serial number of my NC? I bought it second-hand so I do not have the receipt or box. I'm on CM7 if that helps.
That is also my issue.
I know it was used. I bought it here, from the XDA Marketplace.

I have the box, would it be there somewhere?
(begins to look)

EDIT: luckily for me, the guy I bought it from sent it to me with the original packaging. What do I find on the back next to the UPC barcode? A label with the SerialNumber.
woo-hoo!
I'll be calling tomorrow!

Only had my Nook for a month and the cable end cracked and led shows red - it charges fine tho. Requested my new cable today with no problem and should be here in 3-5 business days.. Thanks for this thread!

I got one, called them from Cyprus. A friend of mine went to US and the cable was waiting for him at the reception of the hotel :)

Mine is on the way! :)

My new cable is on the way. After the third time i used it, the metal tip bent and it was difficult to get the cable to go into the nook. But i called them with my serial and B&N account email, and they have my new cable on the way to my house.... FREE!!! Thanks for the heads up on this guys. BTW, I never even registered my nook with B&N. I installed CM7 on it and never even booted into the stock rom, so as long as you have a serial number and a B&N account they will replace your cable OR charger. Make sure you specify multiple times which one it is that's not working.

Anybody know if they send cables abroad? My cable started to fall to pieces and it takes for ages to charge the cable with a regular cable.

And a really stupid question, but how do you know if you have a BN account? Can you get one without having a Nook? Cause I'm not sure whether I got one or not when I got my Nook last spring. Is there some way to check? Since I'm in Sweden I never had to use my BN account(put in CM7 right away in it).

Thanks for this tip, my charging cable was beginning to have intermittent issues and developing tiny cracks around the N-bit. A couple of minutes on browser chat with a B&N representative and she sent in the order to get me a new one for free, 3-5 day shipping. No hassle or arguments.

Really?? Wow I tried five times from when I first bought the NC and each time somebody promised to send me a new cable and charger and each time nothing ever showed up.
The only thing we EVER got was a email with a prepaid shipping label for us to print...like they wanted us to ship something TO THEM!

So has anyone actually gotten the replacements?

I don't even know how to try anymore...we have moved, the card on the account doesn't exist anymore...basically nothing they grill you for over the phone is even the same anymore except the email address.
Come to think of it they kept telling me the serial number wasn't in their system too. Funny, we can buy books with it!!

We have just been taking a long time to charge it with phone chargers since we got it as the nook cable was defective out of the box.

The tip broke off of my cable last week and I brought it into my local BN store. They had a bunch of used cables at the customer service desk. They told me I could get a new replacement shipped or just have a used one. I took the used one and it's been fine. They were really very good about it.

Timeline:

11/28
Spoke to B&N Online Chat (through the website) where I had to provide my Nook Color serial number, my name, and address at the time of purchase. I am within the B&N warranty period.

She immediately processed for a new cable and said it would take 3-5 business days.

11/29-12/06 No emails regarding cable, nothing on B&N website.

12/07 - Arrived in a medium-sized USPS generic brown box (literally 10x as big as the actual Nook cable box) with a bunch of catalogs and a packing slip. Looks like the retail nook cable replacement (white box with green N cutout logo). Did not have to sign for the package, it was left in mailbox area. Cost $0 for me.

It took a little longer than I thought it would (esp coming from a warehouse in NJ, I've had amazon shipments arrive within 3 days of shipping confirm from that state), but it did arrive. I have no idea why you haven't gotten your cables :(

P.S. - Of note, I didn't purchase my NC from B&N directly, but through Best Buy. They did not ask me where or how I purchased, I think they were primarily concerned that it was registered to me personally and still under warranty.
