So I take it this is still possible to? Without proof of purchase or anything? I bought mine refurbished.
No problem at all. I got mine from overstock.com and it took me a few minutes on chat (just as long as it took me to give them my address) and a new charger and cable is on the way.

Overstock

Bought mine from Overstock as well. Had connection issues with the original cable from the beginning. The connector still looks OK, but the USB connection gets lost whenever I move the NC around. An old Blackberry cable works fine, so it must be the cable.

Charging is not affected so far. I guess I'll stop by B&N and ask for a new cable as well.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks &Happy New Year. My plug came apart & its full of electronics. The idiots at Best Buy gave my wife an old school charger/cable which trashed her NC. I super-glued my plug but the stress relief is afu. Don't trust it. I'll call tomorrow.

free charger

Hi, when i called and they asked for my serial number i just told them that i cant get into my nook cause i cant charge it and they just looked up my purchase date to see if it was still in warrenty and they sent me a cord an plug no problem and i received it in three days. i also did let them know that i was aware of the issues with the charger breaking and falling apart...mine fell apart in four pieces...new charger is working perfectly although when i asked if they changed how they were made they replied "no" so those of us that have replaced them may need to do it again bfore the warrenty is up. i called 1800 the book and that was all i did.

Wish I'd seen this earlier. Bought a new charger cable two weeks ago at my local B&N store. I justified the outrageous price by thinking of it as a donation to the patent wars. :)

Free Cable

Just thought I would share this. The tip broke off my charger cable. Then I read this thread. I took my nook and the broken cable to the local Barnes&Noble store and talked to the nook "girl". I said I heard a rumor that you guys could replace this for me for free. She said I have to check with my manager. She made a phone call and then said. Sure.. no problem and handed me a new one.

She didn't check warranty or serial number or anything.

I wonder why they just don't offer a cable without the N or put the N assembly paralell to the nook so there is less stress leverage on the plug.

They will check your Nook Color's warranty information by asking for your serial number, billing address, and email address used to register it with bn.com.

I should mention, too, that you can charge the Nook Color overnight through any micro-USB charger. It just takes longer. If you charge it overnight then there's no problem if the fancy-dancy cable that came with your Nook Color breaks under warranty.
