Wow! You're still using Dirrk's ****? He quit developing for this phone like a couple of months ago. An overclocked Voodoo5 kernel is much better (not to mention, more current) than your present setup.
and I need to stay up to date why? I've been waiting for FroYo (luckily, here comes Gingerbread). I don't care about DJ05 or DL09. I don't care about Voodoo5. Anything but FroYo/Gingerbread is outdated - so I hate to break it to you, pal, but you're running an outdated setup as well.

I haven't updated because my setup suits me just fine until I get what I've been patiently waiting for.

sorry for my dumb q in advanced but why couldnt froyo be built from source for the fascinate from AOSP? Are there specific bits of code needed that samsung never open sourced? if it couldnt be done for froyo then why is it happening for gingerbread

The devs decided that if their going to work on an AOSP they may as well work on gingerbread as it's froyo except better.

Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz

The first part of your inquiry has been answered a few times before. What AOSP gives us is the operating system but that's not much good unless you have a way to talk to the device. In particular what's missing is a way to communicate with the radio (Radio Interface Layer or RIL). The RIL is available for GSM phones but being that the fascinate is CDMA that doesn't help much.

These crazy devs have taken it upon themselves to hack together an RIL and ways to communicate with other bits of hardware on the phone like Bluetooth and wifi. Like the post above says, if they're going to do it for one version of android, why not a newer one?

Hey, as long as you're happy that's all that matters. Cheers.

Funny story, I didn't care to upgrade at all but you got me wondering how much better Voodoo5+DL09 was. I ended up flashing it over the weekend and notice a marked improvement. My phone used to run horribly for the first few seconds of booting before SetCPU would kick in and overclock to 1.2GHz. Now I'm running at just 1GHz and I only use SetCPU to raise my minimum speed but it runs fine without it. You were right, and this Gingerbread theme should hold me over until birdman finishes up with the real thing.
