How can one flash this coming from a custom rom / recovery? Is there a way to do this without connecting to a computer? I'm running amonRA 2.2.1 and CM7, locked bootloader, and would like the ability to wipe and flash to stock/official build without the need for a PC/adb.

What you need to do is this:
1) Go here.
2) Make sure you are on HBOOT 0.35 and radio 5.08 or 5.12. Links are in the thread.
3) Flash the ROM in the second via your custom recovery.

Ok I've been trying to update to Gingerbread for almost two weeks now and I'm starting to get really frustrated so I'm hoping that you guys can help me.

Phone: Nexus S
Carrier: Rogers (Canada)
OS: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9020AUCKB2
Build: GR154

Phone is not rooted and never has been.

I have received the official OTA update notification twice and it has failed both times.

I have tried to manually install countless versions of the update, they all give me this error:

"Assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/LatinImeGoogle.apk")

E:Error in /tmp/side load/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."

I then read that updating my HBOOT might solve this problem, so I downloaded the 0.35.0017 HBOOT and tried to install that and I get "signature verification failed"

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :(

Maybe if you would ask in the Nexus S forum, you'd get more help. This is the Nexus One forum...

I wanted to install 2.3.4 on my Nexus one.
The device is not rooted and it is not tied to any carrier(unlocked).
Should I have to do anything (setting/config change etc) to get the OTA update?
Who is responsible for pushing the OTA update, is it google or the carrier?
plz advice...

Some carriers use a stock Google image, some carriers tweak the Google image to better suit their own needs. Your answer would depends on who your carrier is...

Ugh, I'm "that guy"? Sorry. :(

In my defense, I was linked here from someplace else, and this thread is about both.
Yeah, I can see why it's confusing, as the title of the thread says it has the update.zips for both the N1 and Nexus S, but if you read the thread, it is entirely relating to the Nexus 1. It just happens to also have a link to the file for the Nexus S in the first post (for what reason, I have no idea).

Hi guys. I have a nexus one and i have a problem...I use a custom recovery with an old build of cyanogenmod (probably 7.0.1). I want to return 100% stock: recovery, kernel, and rom (i know that is impossible to lock bootloader again ). I found on this thread this rom: GRI40. If I flash this one from custom recovery does it replace my old rom with 2.3.3 without problem? Does it also substitute my custom recovery with stock recovery only flashing zip? Thank you very much for your help

Yes, you can flash through recovery and it will get you back to stock. You will be a few updates behind the current stock build, but they should follow via OTA before too long.

Make sure you wipe first...

FWIW, the passimg approach may be better because it will restore hboot, etc. Look in the wiki for the unroot/restore guide.

Do i have only to rename update in passimg and flash it? Where is the difference? Now i read the wiki...thank you

in the guide says
Attention: Latest stock ROMs don't flash using PASSIMG.ZIP method. Use the provided latest Froyo PASSIMG, and upgrade it after flashing.
So i can't use GRI40 named passimg.zip??? Do i have to use froyo?

The passimg method slows anyone to re-image their phone, but it requires a special type of zip (often referred to as a shipped image or ROM). You can do this to get to stock Froyo, and then wait for the OTA updates, or manually flash them yourself...

However, since you are rooted, you have more options - you can flash whole ROMs through recovery, which is something you cannot do on an non-rooted phone. Just wipe and flash the zip, no rename necessary, though you may need to turn off signature verification...

Then i can use GRI40 full rom from this post?
1)rename and copy as UPDATE
2)full wipe from recovery
3)flashing update (and if it doesn't work turn off signature verification from where?)

After this is it completly stock? (also recovery)
Are there any problem with bootloader hboot radio etc?

You don't need to rename the zip, just use the "flash zip from SD" option (the name doesn't matter with that option).

Verification depends on which recovery you currently have.
Clockwork - no need to toggle verification, as it is off by default.
Amon Ra - look in the advanced options.

Like I said earlier, it would be a lot easier just to do the passimg method, and possibly a lot cleaner too...
