I had horrible times with the leaks, and OTA, couldnt get a stable, smooth running version of GB on my DX. Do you think SBF'ing it should cure the cause?

Well it's not a second rate leak , or OTA update that will cause problems, or beta or some crud like that. This is the software newer phones will be shipping with.

SBF

From my experience with Froyo custom roms and sbf, sbf is the only way to truly return everything back to like out of the box condition. Just don't forget to wipe at the first boot.

If this is truly gingerbread sbf, you will lose root until there is a post root method for gingerbread.

This is cool but useless right now. With the inability to root GB you would have to flash the other GB rooted files anyway. So right now it's best to just stick with the froyo SBF file and flash the two GB files and you have root.

This is probably a dumb question, but would you just delete the last 2 letter (.gz) extension to make it an "sbf" file? That's what I did and it seems like it worked, but I just wanted to confirm.

.gz is a compression format extension. You have to unpack(extract) the SBF file from the archive using your favorite decompression utility.

Thanks! 2 questions:

1) Will this update my baseband or is it system only? If it's a full SBF, any chance of giving us foreign users on different carriers a system only file?
2) Will the DroidX bootloader work on this version of Ginger (once we get it rooted)? Or should we use the Droid2 bootloader? The reason i ask is that if the answer to question 1 is it's a bootloader, I can overwrite my baseband with the DX Bootloader, but not with the D2 bootloader.

Thanks for the answer.

i'm running a rooted 2.3.3 system version 4.5.573 and for the last week or so it's been incredibly slow. i realize there are a few updates since then and would like a fresh start either with one of the updates or using this file.

i'm trying to follow the instructions here (http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=11118819&postcount=2) but still am not clear on what to do since there's multiple instructions.

what should i do?

thanks!

AFAIK, the only people who can make SBF's are Motorola. That's why it's a leak, not something that somebody created. So, it's very unlikely we'll see an SBF with root pre-installed.

Very true. Although they are rare Motorola does make SBF's that are pre-rooted (they are called user debug builds) but they rarely go public.
