Hey Everyone,

It would be fantastic if we could have a sticky in the Q&A forum with slang and simple definitions (both Captivate specific and Android in general) to act as a gateway to better forum searches.

I might be a newb to androis os, the captivate, and these forums but I'm pretty well versed tech guy... I run linux, code websites (php+mysql), integrate business apps (php+mysql+postgres+xtuple) blah blah. And the content of this forum lends itself to abbreviations and slang which create one heck of a learning curve. So I'll start with the little bit I've gleaned ... If we want to make this thread a running thing, I'll provide edits (and welcome those with mod powers to make corrections to bad info)

adb = Android Debug Bridge, a command line tool for your computer that via USB connection with phone in debug mode, allows files to be copied and commands to be sent in your phone (including reboot in recovery mode).
Cappy = slang for Captivate. Occasionally looked down upon.
Cognition =
DG = abbr for "DesignGears", a forum member who contributes greatly to
the forum with ROMs and advice.
JF6 =
JH7 =
Odin = Windows program to re-flash your phone back to how it came. (This is the only program that can do this)
OTA = "over the air" updates to your phone sent from AT&T. OTA is also the description of a way to install ROMs. (?)
ROM = (?) can have several meanings from a small program someone wrote to an entire new version of the OS on your phone.
3 button trick = (disabled on many Captivates from AT&T) while powering on your phone, holding both vol up and down keys AND the power button has the phone boot up in recovery mode, allowing the installation of new and/or non-oem programs.
TiBu = TitaniumBackup
TitaniumBackup = an app you install in your phone to backup which apps you have installed as well as user data.
update.zip = the key to installing anything on your phone. When the phone boots up in recovery mode, you can install anything you have copied to your phone and renamed from NewShinyTrick.zip to update.zip.
