GN Sim unlock - not permanent?

So, I bought a GN that was locked to 3 (Three). And I also bought an unlock code (obviously). The code works just fine, but... (why is there always a but?!)

Every time I factory reset/wipe the phone I need to re-enter the code at first boot. Is this normal? Shouldn't the phone be permanently unlocked?

Anyone else having this same issue?

Yep, there's a whole thread on it 'round here somewhere.

I stopped following it 'cause mine is a different issue but afaik there's no fix found yet.
