I've done this before but I've gone through every combination and I can't seem to get my phone to read the GOLD CARD.

What procedure did you follow? Please note that it works 100% with a SD-card (2 or 4 GB) and card reader for only SD-cards. If it's a multicard reader it woný work.
Maybe I was lucky because I only had a multicard reader and it worked on my first try with no problems. My memory card reader has SD, micro-sd, XD, CF, and memory stick readers. I made my own Y-cable from 2 Male/Female usb cables. I plugged into wall with male usb and then plugged my memory card reader with goldcard next, making sure the multicard reader lights up. Then when I plugged my phone, everything work automagically! Debranded my phone, loaded euro rom, followed by custom rom.
I guess you were one o f the lucky ones. I tried it first with a multicard reader. No dice. Then a pen drive and still no dice. I then used a single card SD card reader and that worked perfectly.
