i can see the cost changes, i was looking more for the "yay or nay" on losing the unlimited data plan.

3 points: tethering is enabled under this plan, discount applied to base, and no contract. these justify a change for me. TY!
Although I had unlimited data plans for both phones, I personally never used more than 10Gb so was a no brainer for me.... obviously, for those who use more than 10Gb, you'd either need to keep what you have or choose a higher data base to fit what you normally use.

Either way, its not a bad deal considering you get any existing contract waived and is why you end up with the huge discount per phone.... $40 vs $15.

out of curiosity, how did you burn 10GB? I can never pass 2-3GB before I would get throttled down to unusable speeds. this is the main reason switching sounds enticing because I could NEVER win the '"unlimited data" with throttling' argument with at&t customer service reps.

and in my case, i never paid $40 per phone when i paid for the subsidized cost of the phone at the time the contract was signed.

also, how does this fare when you do need to upgrade your phone down the line? paying $600-800 upfront or enrolling in the next program will just drive the monthly cost up back to where i started. thoughts?

I never used 10Gb which is why I had no problem switch plans... if you purchase a subsidized phone or use NEXT, the $15 per month cost per phone goes up to $40. Basically, AT&T is trying to get you off contract and awarding you the discount for "Bring Your Own Device".

i know you said you never used MORE than 10GB, what I essentially asked is how you got past 3GB without getting throttled.

and by the way, i think the cost is $15 if a phone is purchase through NEXT or BYOD or pay full retail. otherwise, $40

My understanding is that if you're plan is 15gb or more u receive $25 discount from the $40 for each smartphone and 15$ for 10gb.

I too dont see how there is a discount really when if u use the next plan the discount is at best equaling your monthly installment so its still costing $40 per smartphone. My GS3 was on an older contract so its only $15, I just upgraded girlfriend to new iphone and the next plan payment equals the discount so im still paying $40 for her line. Seems like a number game to me.

I'm a brand new AT&T customer, brought in a Note 3 and an iPad Mini that i both already had, and got 10 GB for 100, plus 15 for the Note and 10 for the iPad, no contract, hotspot included.

Just wanted to warn folks tho to check your account online, if you don't already do that. I had 2 things that i did not want added to my acount by 2 different stores. If I didn't monitor my account online perhaps I would be screwed in 14 days and bound to contracts that I didn't want. Probably just bad luck or bad karma lol but I look forward to enjoying the service from here on in.

I'm gonna say that it is a good thing. I took advantage of it. I went from paying for 3 lines @ 290/month to 260/month for 4 lines. The kicker was that I also got a galaxy tab 2, insurance on all 4 lines, beats audio app, and a 100 dollar credit on my next billing cycle. Just go in and tell them you want to know what it will do to your bill if you go for the new plan. I benefited.

The savings is GREAT!!!

Until you need or want a new device...then to keep the price the same you have to buy your phone out right either pay for it all up front or pay in installments (next plan)

Question is over the long run are you saving money if you have 5 lines???
Short answer is probably yes if you only upgrade 1 device a year. If you upgrade multiple devices then probably not.

Adding lines

I've got a question I can't seem to figure out. I got my AT&T plan last year so I can move to the $100 for 10 GB plus $15 a line. This I get.

Now,I have three family members using AT&T phones on straight talk $45 (plus tax). If I move them to my plan, using their existing phones, what's that going to cost? I will want to upgrade the data amount of course, from 10 to 15 or 20 and that will change my $100 a month charge. What will their monthly fees be? I would think $15 for each, but I don't think this is right.

Anyone know or do something similar?

If I understood the spiel, it's $40/line - $25/line for every line you had prior to February (2nd? Some time early in the monmth). The ones you move over from ST don't get the $25 discount - unless you speak to the retention department and get them to allow it.

I like the whole mobile share plan, but the amount you need to pay monthly after the upgrading your phone, $45/line is a real turn off. If i was able to keep the $15/10GB or $15/25GB(?) after getting a new subsidize phone, I'd be all over this

Not sure if this has been said...

...but AT&T's data prices are pretty consistent. For a few years I've been paying $50 for 5gb/month, then each additional gigabyte is $10. 10 gigabytes for $100 is the same price, you're just buying more. $10 per gigabyte.

Just got my first bill and it is humongous. Talked to rep and said it takes couple months to get in routine for $15 a line. Gave me a temporary credit to get through.

That's incorrect. Trust me on that. ?

If you did an upgrade with a 2 year plan after February 2nd then the line is $40. How the bill should look is $40 for every line on a 10GB mobile share plan and then a $25 discount for each one of those lines. I would make sure they put you on the right mobile share value plan and that they didn't create two groups for you in the process.

There is also going to be pro-rated charges any time you make a plan change in the middle of your billing cycle.

It should not "take a couple of months" for you to get the discount.

For them it would be $15 since they don't have a contract with those lines.

OK so heres what I came up with:

I have 5 phones I have mobile share 10gb.

My bill before tax is: $270 per month.
120 for the plan and $30/phone. $6480 gross of tax

IF I go to next my lines are all in. I have 4 in contract 1 not in contract. ATT will change them all to NEXT so my bill will be

$100 for 10gb and $15/phone. =$175/month

So Current plan with buying lets say 5 iphone5s at 200 would cost me over 24 months: $7480

If I go with next and dont ever get another phone my cost is $4200...HUGE savings right???

Now the kicker...IF I want new phones: (assuming I want 5 iphone 5s)
Keeping the current plan would CHANGE from $30/month per phone to $40/month...so over 24 months $7680 + $1000 (for 5 phones)=$8680

Going to next:
I would get 5 phones $32.50/month (Cost of the new phones) over 20 months=$3250
$100 per month service over 24 months=$2400
$15 per month per phone for use of service over 24 months=$1800
Totalling $7450 over 24 months

SO all of this is gross of taxes. So on top of that I would save on taxes as well. It looks like over a 24 month period with 5 lines I would save $30.00 over what I am paying now.

If I KEEP 2year contracted phones (my current plan and get upgrades) Im paying $1230 more.

Someone correct me if Im wrong...but if I never get a new phone Im saving roughly $95.00 per month gross of tax...until I need new phones...

HMMMM

I got my credit right away. I also received an email saying they lowered my bill.
