Having had my Z1 Compact for about 2½ years it finally decided it had had enough. A couple of weeks ago on a day out the battery died even though it was fully charged before leaving home.

I tried factory reset, reflashing the firmware and countless reboots before deciding it was definitely a battery issue. Once it got down to 65% it could die at any time. Shutting down the phone and rebooting caused the charge to drop by 5% every time.

Thought I was gonna miss this little phone a lot, but I bit the bullet and got a new Sony X Compact. Gotta say I'm very impressed with the new phone. I can see why sony didn't update the Z1C to Marshmallow as the integration on the new X range of phones is pretty impressive. I'd wanted to get a Z5 Compact, but my provider had stopped supplying them a few weeks ago so I'll miss the waterproofing but then again, I'm 2 ½ years I'd never submerged my Z1C in liquid.

Good luck with your Z1C's and thanks for all the hard work put into ROM's etc. here but for now its goodbye and I'll be in the X compact threads.

:good:

Funny - I was in the same boat, and on the Z1c/Zxc fence, and I went for a new Z1c. I guess $120 was hard to pass up...

I need a phone for work every day and couldn't keep carrying my emergency charger. It could (and often did) just die in the middle of a call.

Thought about a new battery but by the time I ordered all the bits and pieces and after watching a guide on how to do it, decided it probably wouldn't be worth the trouble. Miss the days where your could simply change a battery.

Kept the Z1C just in case I ever get the urge to try changing the battery.

And I just bought my first one XD. I paid 175€ for a new one on Ebay Germany, Thought that was a pretty good price. Where did you got your one for 125$?
On ebay .com I only found one for 444$ + 100$ Shipping to germany xD
Even the Japanese Import Z1f is cheaper with 495$ and free shipping.

Hope my battery lasts some time :)

Mine's 2 yrs old, however I couln't resist a black friday deal of an S7 even though I'm not a samsung fan. I do miss Z1C's battery life which lasted me 2 days, so I'm just replacing the back cover and front ASF and give it to a friend as xmas gift :)

It's strange that you ditch Z1C because of bad battery.

On average it lasts 3-5 days atleast for me with the 3 years old battery.

Proably extend that to 6 days with new battery.

Phone didn't even reach 2 days on light use.

How did you do it?
Using 4.4.4 stock rooted rom and have frozen tons of stuff including Sony and most Google services.
Also after freezing google maps it improved a bit since i suspect it sent my location even while location was turned off (naughty Google).

Now i'm tempted to get new battery to enjoy week without charging just like with good old Nokia phones and also, change the back panel to SO-02F glass one while at it.

Cost of a new battery + time and effort to swap it compared to $125 for a new one + the opportunity to donate to development...
Mine battery swap to original in sony service centre was ~20$ and took 1 week(battery was ordered, shipped and installed);
That awesome feel, your lil buddy works 2.5 days in a row without charger

I am still on 4.4.4. kitkat stock with root and just replaced my original battery with a new one. works like charm and i get almost the long idle times when i bought the phone new in 2014.
there are very helpful youtube videos on how to open the backside quickly. took me about 30min and i bought a repair kit including tools and the battery for about 30€ (europe).
