Google Calendar and Contact syncing without root?

Hi,

A fire phone is currently enroute to me.
(needed to buy it because its the only non-iphone that is patched to deal with stagefright)

I wanted to get it google friendly and i understand i need the 4apks for it which i can easily extract from my nexus.

but, in addition i would like google calendar syncing and contact syncing - does anyone know if those will work without root? if the adapters are just run, would that solve it?

Log in to google using the stock email application. On my device contact and calendar syncing works without a problem
