Google Camera for Huawei P20 and other Kirin Devices

I came from Xiaomi Mi A2 part of forum, I was quite active in GCAM part of topics there, and I can tell you for certain that you cannot fully use GCAM if the phone doesen't have LEVEL3 (camera2 api) enabled !
And that can only be enabled in two ways, first - to Huawei enabled it by default, which they wont, and second - to be enabled by us when we root the device.
@chankoedo, the reason why nokia gcam is giving better pictures is because they have camera2 api enabled by default, so the phone is using all the benefits from GCAM, on the other hand, P20 is using only software but the result is not the same, because end result (picture shot) is not coming thru camera2 api inside the phone, but thru legacy camera.
What I mean is, that the picture shot is not processed by camera2 api, only normal legacy camera.

Mi A2 is heaving unbelievably great pictures when camera2 is enabled and have GCAM used, you can see it for yourselves on this link.
P20 cannot match with it, I know, I have both phones now.

So, I need a volunteer with unlocked bootloader and rooted device, to try to enable camera2 api with some simple commands using my tutorial for Mi A2. :fingers-crossed:

I just followed the tutorial on my rooted P20 Lite, and nothing seems to have changed - I did get a quality increase from just downloading GCamera without enabling the camera2 api though.

Download Camera2 probe app from gplay, and test your phone to see if you now have lvl3 ... if you have it, then you were enabled camera2 api, if not, nothing is changed.

Only with lvl3 we can use HDR+ with Gcam and really have benefits from it.

My camera2 probe app says the phone is Limited - it said that before and after enabling the camera2api.

Oh, hmm I have definitely changed the build prop, I even downloaded a magisk module that enables it. I guess its not possible on this phone then?

I just tried the first link og Google camera on my p10 emui 8. I get the phone running super hot. And with that settings the app crash and continue to crash also after I reset the setting. I think there is no hope for p10.

Huawei disabled Gcam in Android 9, they blocked it !
We are waiting for 9.1, but, personally I think that it will be the same, because they do not want to interfere with selling their new P30 series in any way.

Nope, sorry, HDR+ is not working, just tried it
Photo quality is similar as stock, even a little worse.

When you shot with Gcam, and when HDR+ is working, it should apply HDR "rendering" of the image after the photo is taken, you could see in gallery that HDR+ is applied, usually with little circle in upper right corner of the mobile screen.

That's a shame I never noticed I never really use this camera I just use stock camera

Working GC-mod for P20 Lite

Since I nowhere found a single word about the P20 Lite, and the apps mentioned in this thread's opening post all crashed my P20 Lite upon launch (like every other gc-mod i tested so far)...
I finally found a mod wich works fine on the P20 Lite. (Except slow motion - it instantly crashes the app).

Simply download MGC_6.1.009_MI8_V1b.apk for "Honor 7X " here (P20 Lite and Honor 7X both utilize the Kirin 659 CPU) and follow the given post-install instructions.
