Is there a way to get the app to switch lenses when zooming? I've fiddled with the settings but haven't found anything that does it

no - they are just normal apks

No those are made to work without root for the most part.

There is no need to root your phone just get the Gcam 4.4 version. Works great.

I have been playing with Bacon camera APK from the app store. It's good with full manual settings but it has issues with crashing every now and again. It's a good app, it's still in development but looks really promising. Can others give it a try and send diagnostic dumps to the developer when it crashes. If it wasn't for the crashing it would be a fantastic camera app.

I downloaded it and works fine (better than Razer camera app). However, when I zoom in, the saved picture got cropped, and looks over exposed. I have also noticed that when I zoom in, I can see a lot of details, it's really sharp!!! But when I take a picture, I can't see those details. Isn't supposed the saved image to have the same (or maybe better) quality as when focusing the object?

On Oreo DP1, the only camera I have been able to get working is the modded Camera NX, but front-facing is busted. Looks like we're stuck with stock camera for the time being unless somebody finds another one that works :/

Give this Nokia camera app a go! I find it MUCH better than the Google Camera and stock Razer app (the only downside is the 2nd lens is unusable) but you get working slowmo!
