The absolute latest build from the Russian forum has a ton of manual settings and options. Not sure what they all do, but I believe it's adjustments that each phone had customized for them, as well as a few custom made ones, but it's so far really good.
No real comparison between stock and the latest build I posted. Take a look at these semi low light shots.
The first one is stock app, second is Google camera using Nexus 2017 ZSL HDR+ settings.

There is a problem using the Google Camera App in that the flash on this phone has a much more yellow tint than most flash's which the stock app takes into account by using the black and white camera. The Google Camera App does not adjust for this.
finally got my hands on the phone!! would any of you early adopters know the difference between the versions?
is GCam and MGCB ESSENTIALly the same but with different naming?

- Disregard version in file names, all four apks are based on v3.5 All-in-One Full Manual
- Effect of device libraries version:
- Nexus 5 - HDR+ On mode doesn't work, no apk uploaded
- Pixel / Pixel XL - very low sharpness, no apk uploaded
- Pixel XL2 - longest exposure in low light, cleanest photos, but low sharpness
- Nexus 5X - the least amount of processing, the highest level of noise
- Nexus 6 - largest image file size, accurate colors, but can't take HDR+ photos in very low light
- Nexus 6P - hybrid of 5X and 6, very accurate colors, will be used for the future MGCB versions
- New settings take effect after application is restarted
- Must clear data / cache after installation and if the app force closes

Anyone else get an OTA update last night/yesterday?
I did and the details provided about the update weren't specific but it seems like the essential camera has been greatly improved with very minimal to almost 0 shutter lag.

For reference, camera version is 0.1.067 (not sure if this changed with the OTA - see post above.
I attached a couple of comparison shots: the one ending in 56 (left picture - rotated the wrong way again (only in post, not on my phone) for the file name is the built in camera,
File name ending in 36 (right picture) is using the recommended apk and settings from a few posts back
(B-S-G's Modded 4.4.020 nexus 6p config on MI5S).
If you zoom in on the ducks head in the 56/essential camera app photo, you start to see noise pretty early on and details aren't nearly as sharp with the essential camera app shot. I attempted 5 with the essential camera and that one was the best. One improvement - shutter lag is WAY better with the updated app.
Only 1 shot taken with the camera port and it was pretty spot on first shot.
TLDR - Camera port still wins with image quality (at least for for low light shots - less noise), but shutter lag is improved on the built in camera app.

I have had my Essential for two days now and I am ok with this camera but the stock camera app needs some work. I am wondering what you guys think about other apps on the Play Store like FV-5, Manual Camera(jpeg and raw) among others compared to the stock and GCam

I took a pic with the 1.4 version in low light and then installed 3.6 and took the same picture. 1.4 took a better shot.. And I used 3.6 with the recommended settings.. Strange..

I tried whitelisting the app for full screen but no change.
Tried these settings, but the photos are not so sharp when I compare to my Pixel phone. Ideas of how to fix this?
