Google Pixel Camera with HDR+

BTW the tick mark only shows when the app thinks that HDR+ is needed. Sometimes you just need to point the camera somewhere else for it to reappear. (This s with the Nexus 6p setting; with Pixel 2016 tuning there never is a check mark.)
I just did a bit of testing. I think that, with Nexus 6p, HDR+ is the same as HDR+ Enhanced. With Pixel 2016 testing, there is a difference, though it is not huge. @Arnova8G2 may want to chime in...

This is what I mean. With pixel XL for model, low light selfies with portrait looks really bad.

If you select 6p for model low light portrait selfies look great. Try it.
You are right. In Portrait mode, the Pixel 2XL model config produces a blurry image---the focus is off.

So I guess that, overall, quality-wise, Nexus 6p is the best setting for Model. Too bad it has a lag between pictures.

@Arnova8G2 version 1.7 is out,, but unfortunately it breaks HDR+ completely on the Note 8.

No configuration option works with the rear camera, except "No HDR+" All you get is a blank screen.

The last known good version is 1.7Beta2.

I attach a logcat. The setting wad Nexus 6 Auto, and I switched to Nexus 6p. Blank screen in both cases.

Thank you for the heads up. I will avoid.

I wonder when the note 8 will get a fully working version.

That said, the HDR+ quality is not great. One issue is that you can't change the "Camera HDR+" setting in this buiild. If @ArtZ would reintroduce this option.... or show me I'm being thick ... that would be great!
Hello!

Do you mean to choose between 'No HDR+', 'HDR+ auto' and 'HDR+ enhanced'? This option is available and working in the main menu on the 'Photo' section.

Please check these versions two too: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75364192&postcount=1360

Hi @ArtZ, thanks for dropping by! I'll check the other versions as well, but what I meant is that the original BGC and @Arnova8G2 ports had a "Camera HDR+" setting (NOT the one in the main menu), which you could set to "No HDR+," "Nexus 5X," 'Nexus 6"... all the way to "Pixel 2 XL." Not sure exactly what these settings do, but they certainly affect the behavior of the camera app. Some settings do not work on the Note 8 (and I guess other phones as well) but some do and give different results.

A quick update:

First, unfortunately, recent versions by @Arnova8G2 no longer work with our devices. Pictures taken with the rear camera have a heavy green tint. I have been unable to remove this tint by tweaking options.

Second, the best recent functional versions for our devices are those by @cstark27 : see this thread. There are three caveats:

(1) use the standard, not wide-angle version from the above thread; and
(2) make sure to clear all app data if you install over an existing version (by any developer). Also, you may want to check the Developer Settings and make sure that both "camera.enable_pd" and "camera.enable_pd_blur" are UNSET.
(3) using Photos from the app is a bit funky; the built-in gallery is more stable. (Go to Developer Settings again ad UNSET "camera.use_photos")

@Arnova8G2 thanks for checking in! The model name is either greatqlte or greatqltesq --- Camera2Test reports the following:

OS Version: 4.4.21-12461033(N950USQS3BRA8)
OS API Level: 7.1.1(25)
Device: greatqlte
Model (and Product): SM-N950U (greatqltesq)

Just in case, I attach the output from Camera2Test and an example picture showing the green tint. Thanks for looking into this!

Yes! I can confirm that the green tint is fine! Thanks @Arnova8G2!

The two only remaining issues are:

(1) slow motion (but this never worked on my device)
(2) using Photos doesn't quite work; basically, the Photos viewer freezes when invoked from the GCam app the first time. The built-in vuewer app is fine. (The same issue is present in recent builds by @cstark27, who says there are issues on device as well.)

Thanks again!

Just a quick note to say that @Arnova8G2 's latest version v6 works beautifully on our devices. By this I mean:

* no color tint on the front / rear cameras
* portrait mode works on the front / rear cameras
* video works.

Still not working (same as in APKs from other devs as of right now):

* slow motion (never worked for me)
* launching Photos (use the built-in gallery instead)

For the slow motion, edit the media_profiles.xml file of your rom (consult the media_profiles.xml file of a rom personalize)
For the gallery only google photo works or the gallery integrated

Sadly, there is no (safe, reliable) root or bootloader unlock for our devices :( Thus, no tweaking the media_profiles.xml or other system files. (Happy to be proven wrong, but reading this forum, this seems to be the state of the art.)
