I got my Oreo OTA on the 27th on my Note 8... fat, dumb and happy! Went to use the Pixel II Camera App this morning for the first time since the OTA... CRASH, CRASH, CRASH! Dammit!
Dang and I was looking forward to Oreo thinking it might make motion photos work.

Did a reinstall help? Which version of the app are you using?

I downloaded the "GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V6-Beta17.apk" listed a couple of posts back and installed that tonight and it worked. The one that was crashing on me was "Beta15"!

Does motion photos work after Oreo update?

Well, there's a button dead center at the top of the screen that says "Motion On/Off" and the first time I launched the apk, there was a white bubble pointer that said "Motion On" pointing at the button! I am assuming that means it's working... I haven't read to see how to test it yet though!

This is great news to me as this was the one feature I was looking forward to.

Do you remember it being there before Oreo update?

To test, take a photo with motion photos on, go into Google photos and hire the picture. Is there play button on the upper right of screen? Is there motion photos?

Thx for replying btw.

I tried several different times - the Camera APK definitely says "Motion Enabled" but when I go to Google Photos, there's no "Play Button" on the screen... I even Google'd the procedure to find out what it was all about to see what to expect and... nope, it's not there. Why the Camera has it but then doesn't produce, I'm not sure... it actually has three also - "Off","On" and "Auto". I tried it all three ways and had the same results??? Just a plain, stationary photograph... and dark, to boot. I still like my Note 8 Camera better! Sorry...

I just got Oreo too and the camera APK crashes when I turn on motion photos.

If anyone can get it to work on their Note, pls share!

I will point out that as far as picture differences when using the note 8 with stock camera vs google, many of those picture can be touched up to look the same. As iv been told, the pixle does take better pictures and since it has better hardware, you of course can touch up photos on the note 8 to get the same results. While I wish the camera was better, I do like many of the other feature the note 8 has over the pixle xl 2. I see both phones to each be equally good by a general sense (both way above iphones) and each for each persons tastes. I atleast wanted to point out that you can make your pictures better by touch up and capturing raw stills.

@Arnova8G2 I'm happy to report that the latest version, "GoogleCamera-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-V3" *does* launch without crashing, the front and back camera work, and portrait mode also works.

I am not 100% sure about the quality of HDR relative to older versions, but I definitely now have some shots where the level of detail captured is better than with the stock camera.

Yes... And sadly the last few builds have been pretty rough. Right now version 4test of the Pixel3mod release at least launches:

https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...f/GoogleCamera-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-V4test.apk

Unfortunately it does the d to crash or freeze, for instance, with lots of light, or when rotating the camera. Other versions crash upon launch. I posted a logfile for @Arnova8G2 a couple of posts back. Hopefully he will look into it, but keep in mind that the Note 8 is not his main target device.

There is no doubt that the Google Camera mod captures more detail than the stock one. Sadly, it's not stable on Oreo.

Partially good news: the following version *does* work on our AT&T Note 8, with one main issue which, however, does not affect actually *taking* pictures:

https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GoogleCamera_5.2.025-Minimal.apk

**Note**: the later version, called "...Minimal-fix.apk", does **not** work on our devices.

The one issue I have is that the Google Photos button always takes me to the same picture in my collection, and not to the last picture taken. I have tried reinstalling, restarting the phone, etc, but no dice.
@Arnova8G2 how can we help ensure that the Google Camera is stable on the Note 8 going forward? I provided a logcat in an earlier post... Happy to provide more... As I said, right now only the aforelinked version works; the "fixed" one does not: the app does not crash, but the screen remains black (both front and back cameras). Thank you!
