Google talk with Video, Skype, front camera questions

Hello,

I'm thinking about picking up this phone, I'm upgrading from dInc. GN would be my number 1 choice as a tinkerer, but having young kids camera quality is taking priority at this time.

The back camera looks very good from sample pictures and specs, but I also plan to do quite a bit of video calling using the front camera and haven't seen as much written regarding it.

Can anyone say whether Google talk with video works with the front camera? Skype with video? Google+ hangouts? and how is the video quality of each over 4g?

Basically any information about the front camera that you think may be relevant to a prospective buyer.

I have only made a few video calls, all have been over WiFi. I can say the quality of my video was better than that of my moms Inc2. I used Skype for that call. On GTalk video call to a Bionic the Rezound still had superior quality in all aspects(video and audio). The camera's are both definitely great! The rear camera isn't meant to take pics in the pitch dark like some people assumed they meant with the term "low light", but it does take really good pics with the flash(which doesn't lag!). It does a really good job of focusing on the point you choose and adjusting the lighting accordingly. I was very satisfied with the camera abilities!

As far as calls over 4G, it is going to depend on your signal strength how good the call is going to be. At least over WiFi you can be certain it will remain consistent.

I grabbed the Rezound vs. waiting for GN because of the manual control with the camera.

I have successfully tested the front camera with Google Talk and Skype and it works pretty well. Had one crash of Skype but was able to talk to my folks for 1 hr+ without problems. According to Skype call details my frame rate on Wifi and 4G were both ~15 fps BUT my received resolution on Wifi was 320x240 vs. 160x120 on 4G. (I get 0 to 1 bars of 4G at my house). I wouldn't let the low res discourage you though, according to callers on the other end, the Rezound was clearer and had a higher framerate than my AMD Fusion powered laptop.

Haven't tried Hangouts yet.

Also, there's no autofocus on the front camera (that I've found) but focal distance is ~4 inches to infiniti.

To me Google talk tends to me crappy quality sometimes and delayed. I test it with my brother on a droid 3 in Wyoming, while I'm in nj, so maybe distance has to do with it, cuz when we talk cell phone to cell phone sometimes its delayed as well.

Skypes quality looked better but didn't fill the screen like talk did.

Idownloaded Qik and wanna test that next.

I have us Qik before, the only problem with their service is that most people that I would video call use stock apps, lol.

i'd love to use stock app such as google talk, because it just makes sense..however, the quality wasn't that great. maybe it's cuz i only tried with one person, but who knows

Double tap on the video and it will fill the whole screen on Skype.

I use skype more than the others. Not sure why, but when using it and testing with my tablet. The video quality from this phone seems pretty darn good, better that what was coming from the tablet. The light settings also adjust nicely.

I picked 1 up and have been very happy with the video quality, I've mostly used skype and it worked out very well.
