I have this issue my android build doesn't have a native file manager app installed setted as default.
Any app that needs this manager to get access to folders and stuff simply crash at the time you press to enter it. And gets you back to main menu, Launcher screen.
With version off that native files app that is used in all androids and the logo/icon is a blue folde, and the name says Files.
And it's considered and system Files, not find in any app store.
With version of that should I look for.
OS Android TV 11
This build doesn't have a native files app installed. Jesus!

Same problem here with a TCL with AndroidTV and a Chromecast TV recently updated. I want to copy my bak config for Kodi but I need access to /Android/data. I tried the workarounds from MiX FAQ with no luck, hope anyone in this forum is able to find a solution

En serio, gente, la solución se sigue publicando y ustedes decidieron ignorarla...

y la gente debe detenerse con las actualizaciones de Android 12 que rompieron algo.

¡NO LO HIZO!

PuckBass, MixExplorer was not working on all devices. Don't bother anymore. With the latest updates, what they did was remove con.android.documentsui from Andorid Tv, so the Mix Explorer application DOES NOT WORK.

Actually.... it is you yourself who has spouted the most untruthful stuff in this thread, including your false claims that a particular app is open source when it is not, and ignorant claims about the workings of Android and Google restrictions. In fact, in my few months participating in this thread you have provided no viable information, just snipes based on ignorance of the issue at hand. If you have any input which might be viable then of course do share, educate us please, but if you have nothing to offer except ignorant snipes and false claims, then please take them elsewhere.

That user acts as a troll and has contibuted nothing to this thread except repeated snipes about other people trying to get this working; the few claims they made that weren't snipes were patently false.
--------

Getting back to the issue at hand, thank you for sharing the description in the quoted post. That seems pretty definitive regarding the lack of fixes or workarounds. Maybe some time in the future Google will open this up again for us, I dare to dream but Google has a way of turning dreams into nightmares, or maybe some developers will find a way through. Thanks again.

Even in Total Commander app, the Android/data is write protected.😔

FYI, this thread is actually a spillover from people who are attempting to resolve this in MiXplorer (and other file managers) until it became apparent that it was a limitation of the operating system. Unfortunately there may be no workaround at least at the moment, possibly for reasons described in this post earlier in the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/google-tv-file-manager-problem.4478099/post-88170413

Yeah, please post a video of you using MixExplorer on Android 12 on Chromecast with Google TV
I'd get some popcorn for that show.

Meanwhile, for those who are still willing to bang their heads on Google's wall of permissions, another way to select document providers in MiXplorer has been shared in the MiXplorer thread. I don't anticipate that this will work for people using Google or Android TV, but in a few cases in android 11 this method has been able to grant access while other methods could not:

Creating Document Providers alternate method = Google's Infinite Loops in a Room Full of Mirrors: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-88279387

Also, FWIW, here is a consolidation of the various methods, troubleshooting steps, and notes from the MiX thread regarding document providers. Again, I don't expect that these things will work but there has been so much variability in the manifestations of this issue that it might be worth keeping in mind in case something changes.

Reminder, at present these workarounds are not doing anything for Android TV. They've been shared in case the landscape changes in the future.

The problem is not the permissions, the problem is that the Native File Manager is not installed in the Operating System, and until now it is impossible to install it. Therefore it is Impossible to enter the Android/Data folder of the Internal Storage.
You are sharing a tutorial where you clarify that the native file manager must be installed.

Point taken, and I realize that. I was sharing these in the hopes that the variability I've seen regarding the implementation of this on Android devices might indicate that Google may swing it back the other way or developers may eventually find a way around it. I've added a line to that post making it clear that these suggestions have been planted in case there is a change in the future. Thanks for the reminder.

So I reside in India and have recently bought a Bravia which runs on Android 11.

But the problem is that it has no built-in default file manager app
Like when I install PPSSPP v1.13.1, the emulator wants me to choose a directory and that's where I'm stuck.

Same goes for Lemuroid emulator. (Latest from F-Droid)

To simplify, if I want to manage storage I use FX File Manager but can't access to Android/Data or Android/Obb folder and there's no default or stock file manager app to grant the access from.

    Any solution??

seriosuly people the solution keep being posted and you guys chose to ignore it ...

and people need to stop with the updates to android 12 broke something.

    IT DID NOT!

https://mixplorer.com/ = open source file explorer that does EVERYTHING !

With all due respect, in addition to sharing inaccurate information about expectations in new versions of android on Google TV devices (and the subsequent need for native file explorer components) you have also falsely stated that MiXplorer is open source. As explained in various supporting resources for MiXplorer it is closed source.

As to not updating to android 12 or 13, for the time being that's what I'm doing but not everybody has a choice and at a certain point it does become beneficial to upgrade the OS for security and compatibility reasons. It is understandable and reasonable that people would find this problematic and seek workarounds.

Disclaimer: although I maintain the MiXplorer FAQ I do not represent the app or the developer nor do I have any elevated standing here at XDA, so just as a person I say: someone who is telling others to read posted solutions should do better at reading information themselves so as not to spread inaccurate misinformation. ;)

I have the same problem on my Chromecast with Google TV (HD) with Android 12. The application (John Data Sync for John GBC/GBA emulator) needs access to the emulators folder but when i tap the assign button (to search for it) it does not open any file manager and shows this error: "You don't have an app that can do this".

I've tried multiple file managers, including Mixplorer, but it can't open any of them. I suspect the problem is that the OS doesn't have any file manager setted as default. It doesn't open any chooser and I have no idea how to set it. Maybe from adb?

I don't think it's a permission problem since the file managers do have access to the data folders when i open them. The problem is the other apps can't "launch" or even find them.

    Any ideas? Thanks

Are you doing this specifically on Chromecast with Google TV 4k? Because as others are saying "default file selector" is not present on that device, therefore loophole to enable access doesn't work.
I'm sure there are other Google TV devices out there and OEMs might have added some flavour to them. allowing this.

I've attach photo as proof that MiXplorer doesn't work on CCWGT

Indeed, the way Google manages storage on newer android versions, particularly 12 and 13, does make things like this more difficult if not impossible. Even before then, in Android 11 there had been an increasing dependency on native file manager components, and to your points this may vary depending on how the OEM handles things so there is not always a clean line between Android versions. In newer versions, if people disable their native file manager they may then have problems with other file managers such as MiXplorer or even core functions of the OS. It stands to reason that if the native file manager was removed there would be similar problems, and it seems as if this is the situation some of you are in. Unfortunately the workarounds which grant access to various storage locations in third-party file managers (the creation of document providers) requires those native components. Those who can add document providers but still have issues accessing locations could then try the workarounds which you may have already heard in the MiX thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/mixplorer-q-a-and-faq-user-manual.3308582/post-87626419

Disclaimer: although I maintain the MiXplorer FAQ I am not here to advertise it, just doing some cross pollinating between threads since there is common interest between those who want more access on their Google devices and those who use MiXplorer.

Nope. I'm just trying to download a bunch of versions of this android native files app.
Nowadays called Google Llc files app. And see if one works
