As many of you may know, Google has announced a while back that they will be pulling XMPP interface support. This means that we are no longer able to use apps like GooveIP or Talkatone with Google Voice. For me, this is a huge deal and a very big drawback. My office is located in a commercial business complex which is in the basement. We get zero reception and putting in cell towers (sprint airave) is virtually useless because we do not get GPS signal in the basement. I've been relying on using GrooveIP to connect to google voice. This is the only way for me to call and receive calls in the basement. Now that it's being pulled, and google has not announce new support, what to do?

I don't know much about Google Voice alternatives, as it's never worked with my Puerto Rico phone number, but the newest official firmware, version NC5 includes Wifi Calling, have you tried that?

native wifi calling is a hit or miss. but if i can have an app that would work, i can use this service even when i'm outside of the country using wifi.
For people like me who want to use other apps like groove ip and other forms of VOIP going through google voice's services, they just killed it. Now, unless they're going to implement the new changes to hangouts to allow for voice calling like how it is on iOS (i only own an ipad) sometime soon, I'm kinda SoL on that front for now unless theres a workaround

I just installed this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moplus.gvphone

it appears to work - there is a 2 second lag while you listen to whoever you are calling (the other person doesn't seem to experience this) and they don't support custom ringtone (GRRRR), but I need something at home since I get crap signal there.
I'm still on the old version of grooveip. Seems like Google haven't had a chance to actually disable XMPP as a whole.
