You don't need root - you need to be unlocked with a custom recovery, nothing more. If you want to remount /system once the OS is loaded you need root, but working inside of a custom recovery having root access via the su binary has no relevance.
That's more like it thanks.

But if bootloader is locked he would have to setup phone from scratch. My basis was based on it being locked bootloader.

We need to study the NS4G delta update to see what other libs were updated. One of them is key to making it work on CM nightly.
Keep in mind the files that are being patched in the update with the .p extension, these are not full files. So renaming them and pushing is not going to work. Compare file sizes with real libs and the patches. These just patch the files, not replace them. So what you need to do is find a full 2.3.7 ROM PeterAlfonso has a couple on his webiste. Use those libs.

I posted this in another thread. Nit sure if its relevant.

One factor may be branch of code. In build numbers, the letters have meanings. First letter is Android version (G for Gingerbread). Second letter is branch. Usually this is R for Release. The build for NS4G is W. I don't know what this W branch is. Maybe special "Wallet" branch.

I was able to install, regsiter, and add the prepaid card with the free $10 on my T-Mobile USA Nexus. The notification event for the prepaid card registering didn't go away, however, until I hit the Clear button. Tapping the event and going into the Wallet app didn't clear the notification. I haven't been out yet since getting it setup so I don't know if it works.

My phone is already rooted. Will it still work? And does this break tethering?

Yep tethering and all works on GRK39F... its main bugfix was the tethering one. Just flash my rooted stock via CWM and you are on latest :).

Of course id do backup just in case.

Interesting... it seems due to the security stuff it may never be on non stock roms. I kinda half expected that but that shot kinda confirms it.
Its the way the keys are signed. Your GoogleWallet apk is signed with private keys from Google. The keys have to match, so the solution for custom ROMs is to sign both with the same key. The easy route would be test-keys as this is how ROMs are signed now, but with Google Wallet managing money, I think it may be more prudent for rom devs to sign both with private keys.
