HTC made a Nexus One with a LCD screen? Did it start as a LCD and switch to an AMOLED later in production? I bought one of the very last Nexus One(may it rest in peace) phones ever sold in July 2010 (it was actually the last day it was ever for sale from Google) and it was an AMOLED.

Wow, this thread had been asleep for over 2 years. I hope you were gentle. Crazy to see how much of a graveyard this once bustling center of android development has become.

The original N1 were all AMOLED. It was around the time that the N1 busted the smartphone market open that Samsung decided to shift away from being mostly hardware manufacturer to mostly selling complete products. In particular smartphones and TVs, relying heavily on their AMOLED patent. They canceled their contracts supplying those screens to other companies.

So since no other companies are allowed to make those types of screens, the N1 hardware had to be revised halfway through its lifespan.

The fact that you got an AMOLED model so late could likely be due to the distribution center for your area underselling/being overstocked, or any number of reasons, really.

None of this was fact checked, just typed this up as I remember from 5 years ago and it's too late to go googling and Christmas dinner (and drinks) have made me lazy.

Happy Holidays!

Yeah, this tread is pretty old. I was just browsing one day and saw the thread in a search and started reading for nostalgic reasons(I loved the Nexus One). I can across the post about a Nexus One with SLCD as was very surprised. My first unit(bought in July of 2010 as mentioned) as well as a replacement due to a blown speaker(which was actually my fault) about 3 or 4 months later were both AMOLED. I guess it could have been a distribution center issue for the original one but so late in the sale of the Nexus One it really would surprise me that an AMOLED one was still in a warehouse. Have you actually seen a Nexus One with SLCD?

No, I've literally never bumped into anyone with the same phone as me, since I live in a region where it was never sold. From what I remember reading though, the blacks were a lot worse in dark environments but battery life marginally improved. No stellar difference.
I did have a screen issue, dropped on a concrete curb corner, cracked digitizer. I had a spare screenguard film to cover it and it worked fine until I got my new digitizer (for less than $15 if I remember). Very arduous to replace though.

To this day the AMOLED shines bright as ever, 6 years of daily use. I never expected this phone to even last that long. My heart weeps a bit letting it go :'(
