From now on, I'll probably be working through conap, so most of the kernels will be compiled by him.

I just wanted to get this out and done properly for the time being.

This kernel MIGHT hinder HOW your gps behaves(I don't have an eris, so I can't test). It is something I have a problem with in the hero implementation and it's something I'll spend the weekend working on.

Also, reference this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7705201&postcount=2 as a FAQ.

I'm clocking out for the night.
Do you flash this through recovery.

Okay this kernel is great, while it lasts. Since i flashed it Im getting multiple freezes and i keep having to pull the battery. Im using interactive governor at 768 and CelbFroyo 2.3

I don't think our wifi chipset supports softAP mode, but I could be wrong.
I haven't been able to find any info either way... I thought I could figure it out if I could figure out the wifi controller chip that our phones use but googling hasn't gotten me anywhere yet...

AP wifi tether support

I apologize about my ignorance in advance...

would this feature be possible to incorporate on our eris?
I found this:

In this topic:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734111
in the incredible forum and they were able to enable AP wifi support on their phones by incorporating that string into the .config of their kernel.
While searching through the github link for the kernel mentioned in this thread I noticed that the above string was simply commented out completely.

If it's possible on our phones the Incredible devs were able to accomplish this by including the above string and running the latest "wifi tether for root users" available here: hxxp://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ as version 205 includes support for Soft AP tethering if enabled and supported by the phone it's running on and if not will then default to ad-hoc mode. Version 202 only does ad-hoc.

Thanks for taking the time and sorry if it has been looked into before, I wasn't able to find an answer so far. I'm quite interested as it would allow my eye.fi card to connect directly to my phone without buying the EXPENSIVE $150 Pro which is the only card that will connect to an ad-hoc network. Mine is the cheapest and only supports AP wifi networks :(
This was something that i looked at briefly before and since you reminded me of it I took another look and did find reference to it in our kernel so I am compiling now and see if it will work .....

Edit: It compiled with softap configured but wireless tether apk still only seems to work in adhoc mode...

I've compiled Linux kernels hundreds of times, many moons ago... As I recall, you can "compile in" support for everything including the kitchen sink and it will successfully compile. It doesn't mean the hardware does or doesn't support it though. For example, on a standard desktop PC, one can compile in support for a HAM radio card (?) but without that hardware, it won't do a whole lot ! :D

conap do we know what yet is causing some of the instability? it seems like the kernel works awesome but after a short while becomes really unstable unless you reboot :\

What do you mean by unstable? unresponsive or laggy or reboots? I didn't have issues today but I've been testing some stuff so probably rebooting enough not to notice...I will try to leave my phone on for a while lol..

I flashed it last night, and didn't really work out as well as I had hoped. I ran Linpack and Quadrant scores before and after flashing, and while the tests ran slightly higher after, I had some issues with scrolling speed. Using LP+ and the 3d app drawer I had problems with scrolling up, was much slower than scrolling down and in general slower than before. Tried the interactive SetCPU settings - leaving it low for the minimum and had major lag while playing music and the screen off. I ended up having to battery pull and reboot. Turned the settings up to 710/245 and still just didn't seem as smooth as before. I'll give it another shot though after your next release. Thanks for making this thing work though! Your time and efforts are much appreciated. There aren't many devs here so you guys have to work just a bit harder than some other communities. Don't think we don't notice... :)

haha well ive flashed it a few times with clean installs of the rom being the latest... its fine for a while and zips along then after a while it just lags up. sometimes it needs a battery pull but occasionally im able to recover and its okay,

its never fully recovered until a reboot though once this happens. (its almost like its stuck at the bottom freq or something -- i have bumped up my minfreq to 245 as per dec's suggestion last night).

i just reflashed it again and am going to see if it happens once more.

edit: not bashing on the kernel at all btw, just reporting my experience... this thing is RIDONKULOUSLY fast.

I really can't diagnose things unless someone gets me logs of any errors they're having(last_kmsg preferably).

if you have a reboot/soft reboot please

Code:
adb pull /proc/last_kmsg lastkmsg.txt
I can't recreate problems since I don't have an eris :p

I used the flash version today all is running good. One thing I am not clear on is, should I be using SetCPU with this kernel? I have been running Nonsensikal without it.

Thanks

Before when I played a particular tower defence game there would be a lot of lag, after the kernel there is very little so this was surprisingly helpful.

Also guys, please wipe dalvik when you flash the kernel just to make sure that I'm dealing with a somewhat 'clean' slate.

Its something about the Interactive CPU governor on certain phones. Probably the ones that cant go past 768 for some reason. I set it to performance and on demand it works great but when you dont have setcpu installed or when you do and set the speed but still use the interactive gov, then it starts to lag and eventually freezes to where the phone is unusable and have to pull the battery out.
