was reading over at Androidforums.com about people turning off GPS on the Shift and getting faster 3G speeds because of it.

my results are always inconsistent where i am (jumping between 300 and 600kbps) but my fastest speeds are going from 600kbps to 1mbps and i have never gotten 1mbps where i am with any phone. (blackberry tour, palm pre, Evo)

wondering if some of you want to try it out and confirm what i'm seeing?

I've tried this and it didn't make a difference. I do, however, get slower 3g speeds with this phone than with the other one i had.

Wow, are you sure you are not on 4G? Speaking of 4G, anybody see improvements disabling GPS there as well?
Yeah quite sure. I live in the sticks. I wont ever have 4G here. But the 3G here is super fast (probably because nobody is on it?). On my Heroc, I think I maxed out around 1720k down once (using Speedtest app and a server 45 miles north of me).

Just for the hell of it, I tested again just now and got 1815k down, 585k up. So looks like I beat my old record! :)
