Hello all, it's my first time flashing a Project Treble GSI and I'm using a rather strange device, an Alldocube X U1005, which isn't officially supported. Since the device shipped with Oreo and I was able to flash an unofficial LineageOS ROM, I thought I would experiment and try RR. I was able to use TWRP to flash the system-181221-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img link (which was posted in an Alldocube X U1005 thread) and the device booted and I ran through the Android setup wizard fine, and even was able to restore my cloud based backup, so things looked quite good. However, it seems that I have problems with system apps (like Gboard) as I do not get any home/back/recent buttons on screen regardless of what launcher I use. I'm only able to uninstall Gboard - so I suspect that this might be related to incorrectly flashing the A Only img when my device would have supported seamless OTAs and I should have flashed the A/B image. Does this behavior sound like something that would happen due to the incompatibility of the partition image differences between A only vs A/B GSI?

The other difference could be that in order to flash the LineageOS version, I had to flash the original Chinese firmware which may also have a slightly different partition table than the international models.

I'm very happy to experiment flashing different GSI images, I would just like to make some better educated guesses as what to flash to eliminate a lot of extra flashes. So any advice on what to look for to determine what to flash next to fix this would be appreciated.

settings navigation then turn it on

No problem I'm glad I can help enjoy using RR Remix you know there is pie now of RR Remix

Don't get the latest one it doesn't boot. Well I mean for 32bit A Arm Only won't but here is the link

https://get.resurrectionremix.com/?dir=gsi

Excuse my ignorance as I'm totally new to Treble based ROMS, but I've always been under the impression that I should stay on the same Android version as the original device image.

Is it correct that I could potentially flash a GSI based on Pie when my device shipped with Oreo? In the past we always had to wait forever for MediaTek to release source code to the community (which never happened) before mismatched Android/ROM versions could be flashed. Typically MediaTek only releases source code to OEM hardware manufacturers who have access to the code they need to boot a working Android build on their devices, which they then customize to suit their customers’ needs.

If this dependence has been removed with Treble based ROMs then it enables a who new world for ROM flashing. :)

Did you have an officially RR supported device? Last night I tried to flash the Pie based image and never got it to boot. I'm reflashing the Oreo GSI today to do more testing. But it would seem that (at least for my unofficial device) that device Android version and the GSI Android version must match.

No, it doesn't need to match at all. I know a way to get RR Remix to boot and get storage to work since it doesn't have storage but I do have the fix for it. Let me know if you would like the commands and I'll help you out .

adb push cameraserver.rc /system/etc/init/

adb push vold.rc /system/etc/init/

https://drive.google.com/file/d/13Qa0HnRCeI7ZqVMHBQo-YaKq9MDltVc8/view

Just erase the (1) and the (2) also place the files in ADB Folder OK after do this make sure your decrypted after flash RR pie then Gapps after stay in twrp on the main page then do the command prompt and when it done reboot and it should boot for you also you should have storage.

Thanks for this. I'm quite curious to experiment with this, but I am wondering if it might be more reliable to flash via fastboot rather than TWRP. My device doesn't have an official TWRP and decryption support is not very robust, so I plan on a full wipe/factory reset flashing the system-190406-arm64-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img via fastboot and then the adb push of these files seems the "cleanest" method to get the Pie working.

really thank you @Googleme35 for the command and files, i managed to booted RR pie with your method when i never succeed before it. For @buckofive i think what @Googleme35 suggest about twrp is the best option to flash before do the adb's command because you need to mount the system to push the files to init folder which more complicated if you use adb without twrp.

One question @Googleme35, are the rc files only work to get RR pie booted? because i also tried with other pie roms which are still didn't boot after flash after i put the rc files

ot a problem with using adb on this rom, if I try to connect:

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb shell
error: device unauthorized.
This adb server's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.

The strange thing is: I don't get a popup on my phone to allow connection, nor can I revoke all granted permissions... :(
