Problem installing GApps

Hi,

I need a little help. I already head CM10.2 from Quarx on my defy+. But because of some problems I decided to make a complete new install.
I flashed the two SBFs as mentioned in the first post. Then I installed 2nd Init and flashed the current Nightly of CM 10.2 from Quarx and the GApps from goo.im. Everything works fine except the Gapps. The only G thing I see is GMail, but no Play Store, no G+, etc.

Does anyone have an idea what may went wrong here?

Maybe I should mention that when I try to synchronize my google account a message pops us which says that com.google.process.gapps and 'Sound Search for Google Play' have crashed.

Bye Sven

gapps from goo.im are too big for defy, you need to use minimal gapps. head over to themes & apps section for them.

@Zephyrot

I have PMd you some updates to your guide here, basically adding information on custom kernels wherever necessary, and some small clarifications here and there. Please include the updates when you can :)

I have been very much enjoying the latest Mokee 43.1 ROM - have found it faster and smoother than CM7 or CM10 builds so far. I hope some other people give it a go and benefit.

Install guide and download links here -

---------- Post added at 03:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:26 PM ----------

I want to flash my Defy+, wich ROM you recomend me
to work well in México (Stock ROM).
I saw this guide but the links don't work to download the ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375701

Please help.
You can get a solid working stock ROM here.

But I recommend the Mokee ROM I mentioned above, it is much faster and better to use.

Good luck!

Have two rooted phones with 2nd Init, can't get custom ROMs working

I have two Defy phones.

1) MB525, bought factory refurbished on eBay, with stock T-Mobile MotoBlur (blech!) ROM (I think it's 3.4.2-107_JDN-9, System Version.34.4.9) running Android 2.2.1. I rooted the phone and installed 2nd Init.

2) MB526, bought new on AliExpress, already came rooted and WajkIUI (based on MIUI 2.3.3) installed, Android 2.3.7. I installed 2nd Init.

On both phones, I boot into CWM Recovery and have not been able to install any firmware successfully.

Any MK43.1 I try to install fails with an error when checking the file.

Installing MS2Ginger-5.0a-2013-08-05.zip works, until I reboot, at which the install fails, and the reboot results in a red light.

Fortunately, I backed up both phones before starting, and have been able to restore to usable states.

Can someone explain where I am going wrong? From what I understand, both the above firmwares install the correct kernel, so I shouldn't have to install a kernel at all.

Earlier this year, I had a Defy, which I rooted, and installed custom firmware without issue. So, it's not like I haven't done it before.

Do I need to install a new kernel for either or both phones? I didn't have to for the phone I had success with. For each type, I have two files:

kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip
kernel-froyo-222-179.zip

kernel-gb-234-451-134-signed.zip
kernel-gb-234.zip

Do I install the signed or unsigned? What is the difference?

Should I install a new SBF in each phone? How do I figure out good SBFs?

To install a 4.3 rom like that one, you need a newer recovery. So install a 4.1/4.2 rom, reboot, then install MK4.3.

Thanks for the tip! Will try that.

Any idea why installing a CM7-based ROM (like MS2Ginger) would fail?

issues with SBF downloads

Hi there.
Firstly I would like to thank you immensely for all of the time/energy that you have given to this project

My main issue has been with downloading SBFs. More so, the gz files seem corrupted. I have tried downloading the file twice

I'm up to this point:

How to Root BL7:

Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
Download this SBF and Flash it
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
Download Part1 and Part2 SBF and Flash it
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache

The file that seems currupt is the one you have on dropbox
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CN_SIGN_UCADEFYEMARAB1B50AA009.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRIRD15_P015_A030_Service1FF.sbf.gz

I'm using Peazip (generally very reliable), under Win7.

I notice that the files are quite new (within the last two months), so thanks for keeping things up to date.

I am currently running a stock motorola SBF (most up to date version available)

thanks

Rooting with Framaroot

No mention of Framaroot ?
I recently used Framaroot v 1.6.1 to root my Defy+(MB526) on GB 2.3.6

Any Pros OR Cons using Framaroot versus flashing SBF ?

Thanks in advance :)

Some time back I sent the OP some updates he can make to the guide, including framaroot if I remember correctly. I guess it will be updated when OP has the time. Till then, no problems in using Framaroot :)

But quoting the whole of the first post is a problem, please edit your post and remove the huge quote.

I am at rooting step

Rooting

So, what’s rooting and why everyone talks about it.
Phones come “locked” , this means users can only do basic usage of their phones, installing/uninstalling apps, wallpapers and basic stuff. You can see but not touch any System file, or change the actual behavior of Android. Rooting just means you have access to your phone like an Adinistrator, meaning you can access and change system files, delete/create files and folders and so on.
To be able to install Apps like 2nd Init that need to access Android System files your phone needs to be able to write and acess these files.

Thankfully, rooting the Defy is a rather simply and usually harmless task.

How to Root BL7:
  1. Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
  2. Download this SBF and Flash it
  3. Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
  4. Download Part1 and Part2 SBF and Flash it
  5. Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
i downloaded dropbox file and than extract but i says file is corrupted and unexpected end of file. i had tried with winrar and 7zip.

P.S-error sceenshot is attached under

Thanks in advance
