Funny, fastboot told me that the bootloader was successfully unlocked, except it wasn't afterwards. Anyway, the second time I tried it worked.

I am not new to Android nor to flashing, custom ROMs, etc. But if I had known ahead of time just how bad these phones suck when it comes to that sort of thing, I would stayed miles away. I simply cannot believe the amount of time I've wasted today on this. Nothing works the first time or the way it's supposed to. I've already sworn off Samsung, so it looks like my options are getting limited. I'm trying like hell to get Resurrection on this thing, but I think I may just stick to stock, put it up on eBay and call it a day. I got a Z2 on it's way as well. Thing may as well be a paperweight and it hasn't even arrived.

To backup drm u have to waste some times.. If u dont care about warranty and drm keys then u can unlock the bootloader easily.. And for newer phones stock roms are always more stable.. I have used couple of samsung phones before and there also I found stock rom as most stable..

Perhaps I've become too picky/OCD but I've grown so accustomed to CM based ROMS at this point and the peculiarities that OEMs introduce into the interface just seem to scratch my eyes. I realize I'm in a very small minority, but it can be frustrating nevertheless.

@earlymorninghours it's well known that Sony devices are not so modding friendly. Instead of posting your rant you could post what your problem actually is so we can help you.

And by the way, backup of DRM keys is not mandatory. You can simply unlock the bootloader and do what ever you want.

I got to where I wanted to be. You'll have to excuse me for not knowing this "well known" fact. And to be quite honest, at least half of the problem was me, going by old habits. Part of my frustration, though I didn't spell it out in a previous post, is that I've noticed over the last 4 or 5 years, more and more being done so that I can't have my phone be the way I want my phone to be. It has consistently gotten either more difficult or more inconvenient to achieve this and it seems as though we're headed in the direction of just being satisfied with whatever comes out of the box.

Probably you did not properly install dualrecovery. Try again and start from step 1. Make sure you do everything exactly as described in my post.

I did...actually I start from step 8 because I have all the files already downloaded and ready for flash. I point the dual recovery as a problem but I don't know what it is because it says it installed successfully after runing the .bat on the computer....

...now somehow I restarted from step 17, then somehow by a hazardous process I entered the philz recovery but no files there...like if everything was erased although I made sure to uncheck all the wipe cases in the flashtool....any idea?
I tried to sideload the files but didn't work...

...haha...now again I can't enter the recovery! what the hell???
My question is : what should I do after I run the .bat, because it says "your device will now REBOOT" so, sometimes I hear that the phone reboot on itselfs but in you instruction you just say that you have to turn off the phone...so should we wait as it says in the instruction or what says the .bat (till the phone reboot)? another thing I noticed is that after the .bat root finished and while the screen is still black the LED turns once to violet quickly and then diseappear...

Hi guys, thanks first up for ALL the help i've been getting in the Q&A section... like santaCruz guy above, I almost am ready to chuck this phone.

Last week I followed this root procedure and it worked. After playing with ROMs today and wanting to restart/reset, I followed the same procedures from Step 1 ... but noticed THEY HAVE BEEN UPDATED RECENTLY WITH NEW FILES REQUIRED.

I can confirm that (same as santaCruz above) that this procedure does NOT work using the D5503_14.3.A.0.757_Generic_UK-nosystem.ftf file.

I downloaded the old "681" file and flash ... it gets me to PhilZ boot recovery ... i.e. I now get to step 17 and continue my journey.

Can someone please look into this!

So are you sure that you followed every step exactly as described (including wiping, etc.)? Can you post the output of dualrecovery installer.
Yes, I followed the procedure 3 times exactly. This is my experience :

1) After getting the new files required, I get to step 17 and try to get into PhilZ recovery. It allows me to do the "Volume Up" trick with Purple LED ... BUT it only shows the nav buttons at the bottom. Then 3 seconds later, my phone restarts by itself. When the phone loads again, I try to get into PhilZ recovery again. Exactly same issue. I cannot open Philz recovery menu.

2) After failing first time, I think maybe I have done something wrong? So I try again very carefully ... once i get to step 17 again it does NOT allow me to get to PhilZ recovery. Not even Purple LED. Like the guy said before, the phone goes to Sony Logo -> vibrate quickly 2 times -> restart by itself -> boot loop ... etc etc repeat.

3) After failing second time (and getting quite angry) I decide to flash the "old way" using old files. I actually re-flash the 681 file (step 16) and then it allows me to get Purple LED and PhilZ recovery!

... sorry, I am right now doing this whole procedure again a 4th time try, because I want to make sure everything is fresh, so I have wiped everything already ... unless the output log file is kept somewhere safe?

---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:05 PM ----------

... oh and one more thing, I am also using the old file "z1c-44-uk.system.flashable.zip" ... basically i am following the same procedure but using all old files like this was from last week.

*I am basically trying to restore my Nandroid backup, but due to a "data error" it never allowed me to do the restore. So here I am trying to start from step1 root procedure to allow the Nandroid restore to fully work*

---------- Post added at 04:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:15 PM ----------

... and I can now confirm that starting from scratch did NOT allow me to use PhilZ recovery to restore my Nandroid backup ... just wasted hours and hours of time. arggg!

Weird. Were you also not able to enter TWRP (with Volume DOWN)? There were people that reported it to be working with 0.757 firmware so I changed the files. Seems there are still problems so I reverted the changes. Thanks.

No sorry i didn't try getting into TWRP.

Looks like I have to start again for a 5th time ... when restoring my Nandroid backup it successfully restored boot and system but not data .. and now the phone forever says "google play services has stopped working" over and over again, non stop.

What is the best way to restore my Nandroid backup?!

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I confirm that I could FINALLY enter the Philz recovery without troubles by flashing the nosystem .681 and all 3 files are there! I flashed them but I got into bootloop now...so I guess I need to flash again the righ generic zip file...but at least I have root and recovery now!

From what I understand if you re-root your phone it won't work with the new files..!!?

yeah, use original files and you'll be good to go .... you won't have the latest firmware version, but at least you got a working rooted phone... I'm going to sleep, gosh so late...

Manila, PH
Open flashtool, select Flash => Flashmode and flash SO-02F_14.1.H.1.281_docomo.ftf (select Wipe [Check ALL] and Exclude [Uncheck ALL])
I'm on 4.3, 14.2.A.1.142. I won't have problems if I flash this over correct? Or should I update? (I have a pending update: 14.3.A.0.681)

If you want root, follow this guide (no need to update). You can later on update to KitKat and keep root (see my other guide in signature).

Decided to give the guide another shot yesterday. Worked without problems, rooted and backed up TA. :good:

Although the process of gaining root is a hassle compared to other phones out there it's well worth the time.
