THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I confirm that I could FINALLY enter the Philz recovery without troubles by flashing the nosystem .681 and all 3 files are there! I flashed them but I got into bootloop now...so I guess I need to flash again the righ generic zip file...but at least I have root and recovery now!

From what I understand if you re-root your phone it won't work with the new files..!!?

nope...I tried that too...didn't work and TWRP didn't show at all.
Decided to give the guide another shot yesterday. Worked without problems, rooted and backed up TA. :good:

Although the process of gaining root is a hassle compared to other phones out there it's well worth the time.
Guys who like myself followed this root/DRM noob guide recently ... I just followed the OP's guide to update your firmware to 757 from here :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688933

and I can confirm this works. Data was NOT lost at all. Follow it carefully and you will have success. Good luck.

(On a side note, my status bar has a square symbol that looks like the Nespresso logo??)

WE experienced the troubles when we had to re-root the device...not the first time, when everything worked well.

I can confirm that the procedure worked fine for me as well, doing exactly what the op says. It's quite easy to screw up though. But as somebody already said: backing up the DRM keys isn't mandatory and unlocking the bootloader is easy, so don't blame Sony. They probably just don't want to have a ton of bricked phones returned.

Hehe, that's not a nespresso logo, that's the NFC logo. Some firmwares have it enabled and on some firmwares it's not shown. If you don't like it, you can disable it (I did so too).

Go to /system/etc/customization/settings, open config.prop and change ro.nfc.icon.enable=false (need root and root explorer of course). Then save and reboot.

Can you still get into recovery? If not then it means there was a problem with flashing the files on step 20. Try using TWRP (volume down) for step 17 and following.

Hello

I rooted using this guide and everything went well.
After a few weeks (yesterday) I found the update guide. I followed the steps (using dual locked recovery 121) but flashing with flashtool did not seem to work. But The phone still updated to .757 firmware.
I rebooted to see if everything went well and it did. I used my phone normally and today I was taking a picture and the phone froze, then went into bootloop.

I tried to wipe cache, dalvik cache, I re-did all steps of the update guide, I tried with latest dual locked recovery 123...

Still bootloop.

Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid doing the whole rooting process...

Did you flash the ftf from my update guide? It's required.
I don't know what the problem could be, which customization did you use (UK, NO, etc.)? Maybe a factory reset helps.

Worked great even for my European (Austria) Z1 Compact! I even used the UK ftf's and all, no worries doing so if you read this and come from the EU ;)
Just one thing: Pay attention to the part where the phone will only boot into a blackscreen. I had to fiddle around many many many times with the Force-OFF switch and USB connection in order to make it work because it always recognized it as "Z1 Compact" and not as "Fastboot" (as I believe, haven't re-checked the tutorial for this now). Anyway, just keep that in mind and don't freak out, after like 10 times it worked.

One little thing still for the tutorial writer: Please pack all things you have to download in the beginning and not somewhere in the middle of the text, especially not the big ftf-files. That would be great and would make everything better for really big newbies ;)

Great tutorial tho, no doubt! One try, worked fine :)
The only bad thing is the Unlock Bootloader part but that's not your fault. It sucks that you actually have to submit your IMEI to Sony...

Hi guys! Maybe this little note would be a good caution to some...

Caution:

Restoring a TA Backup from JB on a KitKat ROM breaks X-Reality engine temporarily on your phone. A fix for this is to

1. Reflash the whole KitKat FTF(exclude system & check reset customizations)
2. Factory reset your phone.

Without doing the steps above you won't be able to play Music/Video Unlimited & X-Reality on your phone even if you already restored your DRM keys and have a locked bootloader.
