'Bout to buy a droid turbo for use on Tmobile, just want to confirm based on what I read in the OP: All variants of the Droid Turbo are carrier unlocked and good to go?

xt1250 on Verizon

I just bought an XT1250 off eBay, and I'm only getting 1X signal on Verizon. I ported over the APN from my old phone, and I can get 3G on roaming, but I'm very cautious of that. At first, I wasn't getting any signal at all on a custom CM 12.1 based rom (resurrection), but I flashed back to stock, and I'm getting 1X. Any suggestions?

Thank you, @Jaocagomez.

The only additional info I would add is:

1) Chile is also one of the Latin American countries where the XT1225 is sold. Was released there after Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico.

http://www.motorola.cl/consumers/view-all-mobile-phones/Moto-Maxx/moto-maxx-cl.html

2) It's worth repeating that all the Moto Maxx/Droid Turbo models are "Quark" Motorola phones with identical hardware specs (display, resolution, RAM, cameras, CPU, GPU, turbo charging, Qi wireless charging, battery, etc), except for internal memory storage (32GB or 64GB). The "international" XT1225 only comes in 64GB with ballistic nylon back.

3) The U.S. XT1250 "Moto Maxx" and XT1254 "Droid Turbo" are identical except for carrier-specific software -- both have CDMA/GSM/HSPA/LTE bands. They both have the same FCC ID number. The "Droid Turbo" is just the Verizon "Moto Maxx" with a locked bootloader. ("Droid" is a name licensed to Verizon by LucasArts which they can slap on any phone they wish. Verizon chose to call their locked down version Droid Turbo, instead of Moto Maxx.)

4) The XT1225 has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 even though the official specs only list 2, 3, 4, 7, 17. When it passed through the FCC it had LTE band 5 (used on AT&T), and QPST/nv browser shows it's still there and enabled. But since the XT1225 was aimed primarily at the Latin America market, where LTE band 5 is not used, Motorola left it off the specs listing. Apple did something similar with the iPhone in 2012, having TWO extra LTE bands enabled that were not mentioned in the "official" specs.

The XT1225 has a different FCC number from the XT1250/XT1254.

5) All the XT1225 phones sold in all the various countries are the same. They all have the same FCC ID number. Why did the XT1225 go through the FCC? Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. Listing an FCC number on a phone in Brazil or Mexico doesn't carry the force of law in the U.S., but listing it on the XT1225 in Puerto Rico does carry the force of law for Motorola. But since it's listed on ALL the XT1225 boxes, wherever sold, it's the same phone across all countries.

6) For people wanting to buy the XT1225 in the 50 states of the USA, you can try eBay or Swappa. There were several Puerto Rico dealers selling them. It's U.S. territory and can be shipped via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail with tracking number. Just make sure they unlock the phone for you or provide the unlock code, as in Puerto Rico the Moto Maxx is only sold in Claro stores not through the Motorola website.

My Mexico Moto Maxx XT1225 was bought straight from Motorola Mexico website (through the help of @Jaocagomez) and came unlocked for all carriers from the factory, but my Puerto Rico Moto Maxx XT1225 was unlocked by the eBay dealer who shipped it to me. Otherwise would have stayed locked to Claro.
This last weekend I finally actually saw LTE band 5 being used on AT&T here in Georgia! I was travelling down the interstate between McDonough and Macon and turned on LTE Discovery. I glanced over and saw LTE band 5! For you Pokemon Go players, like finding a very rare specimen! When I looked again, then it said LTE band 2. I thought maybe I had imagined it! But there it is in the logs. ONE instance of LTE band band 5.

Looking at the last screenshot I took back in Februrary, it's not there. Now it is.

Hello and welcome

I started this thread because i want to help all people who has or want this phone to get more Info about carrier and bootloader compatibilities.

Lets start with this:
DROID TURBO / MOTO MAXX

Little History of the Device

We know as late as mid-August Google was testing a 5.2" 1440p Snapdragon 805 Nexus 6 variant with 3GB RAM, made by Motorola. We saw the leaked benchmarks. After August, all evidence of a 5.2" Nexus 6 model disappeared. Google decided to release only one new Nexus phone, the 5.9" version.

But instead of being released as a Nexus, Motorola released that 5.2" phone as the Droid Turbo (Verizon)/Moto Maxx.

The shared specifications of these devices are the following:

  • SYSTEM: Near-stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat (TESTING ANDROID L 5.0.2 RIGHT NOW ON MOTO MAXX)
  • SCREEN: 5.2-inch QHD AMOLED (2,560 x 1,440 pixels, 565 ppi)
  • PROCESSOR: Quad-core Snapdragon 805, quad-core, 2.7 GHz, Adreno 420 GPU
  • RAM: 3 GB
  • INTERNAL MEMORY: 32/64 GB
  • BATTERY: 3,900 mAh
  • QI WIRELESS CHARGING
  • QUALCOMM CHARGE 2.0 UP TO 8 HOURS OF BATTERY CHARGING IN 30 MINUTES
  • CAMERA: 21 MP (rear), 1.3MP (front)
  • CONNECTIVITY: LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0
  • DIMENSIONS: 73.3 x 143.5 x 11.2mm (Ballistic Nylon)/73.3 x 146.5 x 10.6mm (Metalized Fiber)
  • WEIGHT: 176 g (Ballistic Nylon)/169 g (Metalized Fiber) 184 g
  • PRICE: $599.00 USD (base model)/ $8999.00 MXP
  • USES NANO SIM CARD

CARRIER AND BOOTLOADER COMPATIBILITY

So if you are on USA my advice its to get an US MOTO MAXX to get unlocked bootloader, root and LTE compatibility on major carriers.

WHERE TO GET DROID TURBO/MOTO MAXX
DROID TURBO: http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/droid/
US MOTO MAXX: (sellers recopilation by chazzmatt) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58865000&postcount=197
INTERNATIONAL MOTO MAXX and MOTO TURBO: Int Moto maxx its currently being sold on Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brasil, Chile and india, you can look for it in motorola's page for each country ( motorola.com.mx , motorola.com.br , motorola.com.pr, motorola.com.cl )

I think its pretty Clear in this table which version of moto maxx and droid turbo work in each carrier and if they can be unlocked or not, if you have any questions about this please post.

Special thanks to @ChazzMatt for the little history text.

EDIT:
UPDATED TO INCLUDE MOTO TURBO

Pardon me for quoting the OP, but the chart is slightly outdated. Now the Droid Turbo XT1254 bootloader can be unlocked and phone rooted.

Here's corrected reference chart:

XT1254 bootloader can be unlocked and rooted with Verizon firmware SUTL-44 and SUTL-49, using Sunshine exploit. All the other Quarks have easily unlocked bootloader for free through code given via Motorola website.

And while you can get T-mobile and AT&T on the XT1254/XT1250 (which is really the exact same device), you will only get LTE bands 2, 4. You will only get full AT&T bands (2, 4, 5, 17) on the XT1225.

(And YES, this thread along with some others are remnants from when the Quarks were ALL in one forum. We are now almost exactly a year -- September 22, 2015 -- from when the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx forums were split, which should not have been done. For one, the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 IS the Droid Turbo XT1254, just under a different name. Runs on Verizon with a Verizon LTE SIM card, just like a non-Verizon Nexus 6. Same everything, even the same FCC ID. Well except you can easily unlock the XT1250 bootloader for free.

Plus, with the split all the Droid Turbo owners have to go to ANOTHER XDA forum for most of their dev needs, like TWRP and custom kernel and most ROMs. The forums should be re-joined again, since all the dev work is shared among all the Quarks.)

New XT 1250 Moto Maxx

Many Thanks to ChazzMatt and @Jaocagomez for your posts !

I bought a new XT 1250 Moto Maxx from e bay and want to use it on my USA Verizon network. I have gone to the Android Studio website and it looks straightforward to unlock bootloader with the Motorola generated code. So, what's my next best action ? I'm okay with KitKat for now, but I would like to have Titanium because I liked the freeze feature among other features.

My plan is to replace my current locked XT 1254. I am expecting problems with Verizon Network because they are who they are. I am not a Verizon fan to put it gently.

Best Regards.

Yes, the Moto XT1250 is the natural "dev" version of the Droid Turbo XT1254 (before Sunshine unlocked the Droid Turbo). Same specs, same bands, same FCC ID, runs on Verizon with a Verizon SIM card. Also, no Verizon bloatware. Free bootloader unlock code from Motorola.

The XT1250 and Droid Turbo XT254 are exact clones, but Verizon demanded an "exclusive" and a locked down bootloader -- so Motorola gave them the exact same phone but called it "Droid Turbo XT1254".

The only difference is Motorola never released the 64GB version of XT1250 (even though many carrier websites advertised it at release), whereas the Droid Turbo X1254 comes in 32/64GB sizes. XT1250 comes in only 32GB, unless there's some 64GB existing somewhere in a warehouse... And the Moto XT1225 only came in 64GB at retail (although one person in this forum "found" a prototype XT1225 with 32GB.)
_________

If you just stick in your already-activated Verizon SIM card you should have no problems.

To unlock your bootloader, do NOT follow the bootloader unlock guide in this forum. It's ONLY for the Droid Turbo XT1254 and you do not have that. Instead follow this guide:

UPDATED GUIDE: How to unlock your MOTO MAXX/MOTO TURBO bootloader/install TWRP/root
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-maxx/general/guide-how-to-unlock-moto-maxx-moto-t3455341

There's also boot animations and boot logo replacements in that thread, as well as updated Moto camera.

After you unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root, you can install Titanium Backup or whatever you want. You probably want a more modern ROM. Take a look at these:

[ROMs][Quarks][List for Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo and Droid Turbo]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-maxx/development/roms-t3678624

Oreo ROMs are coming, but @bhb27 says it will be a couple more months probably.
