So this is going to seem like a dumb question but each time I try to set the permissions it says it was unsuccessful. I've already rooted it after unlocking the bootloader and placed it in system/app

Works on my mate 10 pro without root ... Tested on P20 non Pro ..Works too!
      3
Interressing, different builds with different versions region and different behaviour...

      OP works on:
      STF-L09 8.0.0.360(C432) [honor 9]
      ALP-L09 (C432) [Mate 10]
      BLA-L29 8.0.0.128(C432)
      BLA-L29 8.0.0.130(C432)

You're reporting it doesn't work with:
      BLA-L29 8.0.0.132(C636)
I rebrended my C432 to C636 just to verify if it works or not. It works on BLA-L29 8.0.0.134(C636). It also works on phones rooted with Magisk.

Hey. I can confirm working on Honor 9 STF C432 360 Oreo,

      BUT

the recording app requires strict access to the microphone. You need to disable OK google detection on any screen and lockscreen. Then the recording finally works on both incoming and outgoing calls.

      Hooray.

      Did I miss something ?
      You did.

Lastest 18.1 canary, have to be booted in patched recovery to works.

From there you end up in 'normal pie rooted mode' ,
      if you reboot then,
magisk will reboot you to recovery so that it will bring you straigh to 'normal pie rooted mode'.

Problem is when booting normal after device was shutdown, it will boot you to normal unrooted mode.
