warranty

oh man, too good to be true
I tried it as well but it does not save any changes to the file

so I guess there is no other possibility than to unlock the bootloader and then root the device - and lose the warranty
The warranty does not include software it's hardware only otherwise You could never update it , You simply lose then Your warranty at that point. And even if You manadged to get someone to give You a software related issue to the warranty exchange then it only means that You were treated with the at most respwct and that is their store policy, but internationaly warranties does nit work like that.

Description:
Android KitKat Blocks Some Access to Micro SD Cards

Important note:
Root is mandatory and this guide works for all 4.4+ android devices.

In other words, if you have problems with this guide, then do a check, and check again.
Or you doing something wrong, or yours device stil dont have real root status.

Once again, root status is ability to EDIT and SAVE changes to system files.
If you cant do BOTH things, then you doing SOMETHING WRONG or you dont have real ROOT status, or both of them.
Backup your stock platform.xml before modifications, just in case.

Two solutions, manual solution and one click/app solution, both solution doing same thing.
1.

2.

Folks who knows this good, can you tell me,
1. Is it possible to walkaround and find solutions to turn off forced MTP-based connection to PC (make phone act like a storage, not a media)
2. Can NFC be switched off in such permissions or nearby and how may I re-enable it? I may search through file manager, but it's interesting anyway. My model should have nfc and it has nfc system apps, maybe it's switched off due to brand's regional politics.
I've HTC One Mini 2.

@javad490

Google brings new developer tools to allow for more access in Android 5.0 Lollipop
Using this new method, a developer can now declare a permission on installation (that's part of that list of items we usually gloss over) to do "things" on device storage — including removable (read: SD cards) storage.
One of the things they can do is allow you to choose what folder(s) on the SD card you want the application to be able to change. This could be one folder — like "Music" — or the top level folder.
Anything inside this directory can be read, written, and possibly deleted.

Simply put, this means that an app like Poweramp can now edit tags on the songs you have in the Music folder.
Or a photo editor can save to the Pictures folder, and not just its own folder.
Or a file manager can move files around on the SD card.
All the developer needs to do is update the app with the new methods.

Sooooo... To fix the write problem in 4.4.2 - which I am still running, I took the plunge today. I am running the SM-P900 running 4.4.2

1. I downloaded the KINGROOT apk (NewKingrootV4.85_C139_B255_xda_release_2016_03_30_105243.apk 8.5mb)
2. Installed it and let it do its thing
3. Downloaded and installed RootChecker Basic
4. Ran the RootChecker and it came back as properly rooted.
5. Downloaded and instaslled the NextApp SDFix
6. Ran the NextAppSDFix to change the settings (in \system\etc\permissions\platform.xml)
7. It made the changes and left a file named platform.xml.original-pre-sdfix in the same directory
8. Rebooted to make the changes go into effect.
9. Tested Total Commander and ES File Explorer and both have access to write
10. Being the un-trusting soul that I am, I uninstalled Trusty and Kingroot
11. Rebooted
12. Tested Total Commander and ES File Explorer and both have access to write
13. Even ran Greenify to check to see if any remains of kingroot is still around - nothing
14. I am NO LONGER ROOTED - but I have full permissions to the external SD - AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROM THE VERY G*%DD#$% BEGINNING.
YOU HEAR THAT? GOOGLE ANDROID "development team" -- YEAH THATS RIGHT - YOU MORONS CAUSED US ALL KINDS OF TROUBLE BY TAKING AWAY THE WRITE OPTION. MORONS.

....calm......whoosaahh......whooosaaahh.....

So there. Its done. All is right with the world again
So now we wait for any gremlins that may show up....

I know this is an old thread by now, but some of us still run kitkat stock ROM and when factory reset or reflashing the phone we will loose root and this fix.

For me there are still some apps that don't work, but besides that I can now write to the SD card and delete, move, create. I'm not using a Sony phone but a Lenovo A916. but as said in the start this should work for all phones.

I would like for the developers here to make a "easy for noob way" to backup their changes and installed apps to a flashable ROM, so they can restore in case its needed.

If this already exist then please tell me here, since this is the thread most people will go to when everything else fails.

I would also like to have an app that with root priviliges could grant full permission to R/W the SD, to apps that don't already have this in the code - there are still good apps out there that is no longer being updated(maybe developer past away).

Is such a thing already made?

I would also love to see developers here take more interest in making SW available for Linux and not only Windows.
