After months of having LP, I just gave up and I've downgraded using this tutorial to 4.4.4.
I'm currently using a Retail Argentina 4.4.4 Firmware on my XT1058, so far everything is ok.

I've just a question about your method:
You only flashed 3 IMG files, boot, recovery and system.
I've seen another tutorial where the only bin file that needs to be ommited, was gpt.bin.

My question is, what are the differences between these 2 tutorials?
Because you are not flashing modems as well. What about motoboot.img?

Just to be clear, I'm not discreditting your method nor nothing on those lines; I just want to understand what the other IMG and BIN files that we didn't flash to downgrade do.

Thanks!

Please read the FAQ ( 2nd post ). I've answered that there already since I find that to be a often asked question in my PMs.

motoboot = the bootloader of the device
gpt = the partition table of the device
these cannot be downgraded.

Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't flash modems because I was already using 4.4.4's on 5.1.

But I was surprised to see that other tutorials go towards a more 'complete' flash, and people have not bricked their phones...

Final question for now: if I want to go to 5.1 again, I would only need to flash the recovery, system and boot for 5.1, right?.

Thanks again.

Everything is more than OK on KitKat...
I really missed the wave to wake feature, and I'm already seeing improved battery life than before!

But now I'm getting the ota notification to upgrade to 5.1...
Is there any way for it to not show anymore?. I'm not rooted, and would like to stay like that.

I've checked that I cannot disable the Motorola update app...

I guess I could hide all notifications like that, but I'm not sure if that would actually stop ota installation...

Thanks again for your support.

Followed your advice, and uninstalled the updates for that app. I cannot uninstall it, nor disable it. But, I've manually checked for system updates and it says my phone is up to date...
So unless I find a way to disable it, I just will leave it without updating and that would be it.

Thanks again for your guidance.

Try this ... go to /system/priv-app/3c_ota.apk and rename it to 3c_ota.app and/or revoke it's permissions, then reboot.

Never mind, just noticed that you are not rooted.

Are you sure those files are in the same folder as the mfastboot executable?. Also, why did you tried to flash boot partition with system.img?

Read the first post very careful and if you lack knowledge as to what you're doing, please don't attempt such activities, that may damage your functional device.
I got my boot loader unlocked and rooted, now i m using eclipse blur based , couldn't I get KitKat

Questions my be stupid, but I'm going to make them nonetheless...

1) from a functional Android point of view, the downgrade is full, right?. I mean, even though the phone has parts from other version, the Android functionality is 100% 4.4.4?

2) is there any risk in leaving the bootloader unlocked?. I mean, can an app (or Android itself) take any advantage from it being unlocked?. Or it's something only that can be 'isued' by tools like fastboot, mfastboot and rsd?

Thanks.

Yes, this is 100% functional 4.4.4, I've explained that in the 2nd post.

2.In theory unlocked bootloader poses a security risk, but most of the ways to exploit that require physical access to the device. You shouldn't worry about that really.

Thanks.

The reason I'm asking is because yesterday I saw the strangest things on 4.4.4, which I've never ever saw while I was at 4.4.4 'normally'.
In fact it took me about 30 minutes to recover the phone's functionality. Maybe it's ART, but was having issues installing facebook messanger, and that basically hung the phone...
Had to uninstall, and clear cache. I've also had some issues with Google Play, and Google Spreadsheets.

A few hours ago I had to reboot the phone again, because it was running CPU at 300mhz way to often, so something was looping in the back...

I'm going to monitor this further...

And for the bootloader, I understand that I can re-lock it (even though it will say it's relocked), but that also erases all data?.
My main concern is actually that an app could take an advantage of having this exposure... I'm not that worried about someone physically having the phone to extract information...

Thanks again.

Don't use ART on KK.This thing is bad even in MM.It will take them few more years to get it where dalvik left.

Those issues you've having are weird, but hardly related to this thread here.I've downgraded since 6 months now, no issues at all.

And just leave that bl unlocked, there is nothing to be afraid of and yes if you relock it, you need to wipe.

I have a Sprint XT1056 Moto X 2013. It got SIM locked when I upgraded to a the last 4.4.4 version and in the hope of fixing it, I also upgraded it to 5.1. SO now I have the latest bootloader (I have unlocked it) and currently no ROM on my phone.
Is this thread's method going to allow me the downgrade? I want to downgrade to fix my SIM lock.

Basically there is no reason not to work, but until you try you won't know.

@liveroy,

There were issues with call loudspeaker when one had run an LP rom but with an old KK Bootloader/Radio, just wondering if this downgrade may have a similar effect only now in reverse with KK rom but now with newer LP Modem/Radio ? Thanks
