[GUIDE] Fix PERSIST.IMG Loss Of Finger Print Sensor

I tried a few times with 10.5.4
Only one time I had the long red error list.
didn't work at all I made sure I followed the instructions precisely.

Any ideas?

OMG!!! IT worked
I tried one more time, this time with 10.5.5
Had to do the test 2 times to get the long error message
AND NOW IT WORKS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

So basically I need to keep my bootloader unlocked for this fix to work? This means I have a broken phone now. Feels bad.

I had to send my phone in to OP just to get my fp working again.. guide did not work for me (worked before but idk why it doesn't now for me)

My Fingerprint works flawlessly on stock oos but it's weird in custom roms.
Issue is: In custom roms, my fingerprint works well until the phone reboots. After reboot, my fingerprint always says DOESN'T RECOGNISE. Then i had to re-register one more Fingerprint (this time it gives error also like, lift the finger and put again. But after many attempts, finally registered the second fp). Then the first registered fp starts working (and now I can delete my second fp). So this is how my fp behaves in custom roms. This is super weird that after every reboot, it's painful to do all these stuffs. Can you please suggest me any fix?
NOTE: I'm facing this since a year+ and I have many times clean flashed and did use msmtool also. But no matter what, as soon as I flash custom rom, fp behaves like this.

Please help me as I'm searching for this fix for a very very long time.

Does your fp not break after using msm tool? Or do you reflash your original persist to get it working again?

No, after doing msmtool or reverting back to stock oos, doesn't break my fp. As I said, fp works well in stock oos. AND, o haven't flash or reflash any persist yet.

I am on OOS Beta 2 on OP8Pro with an unlocked bootloader and rooted. Recently I decided to unroot the phone and lock the bootloader. finger print sensor stopped working and I researched the problem and found this thread although I had taken a backup of persist and modem partitions as soon as I had rooted the device. ( an old habit acquired due to my experience of using rooted android devices from the last 10 years ). My experience was that as soon as I again unlocked the bootloader the finger print sensor started working again without any need to flash persist partition and it stops working as soon as the bootloader is locked.

Hi i took backup of persist.img when i bought the mobile also i took new backup now.
both files are of same size but neither of them get extracted with 7zip or any tool i have tried. it gives error.

Strange, works just fine here - just tried again in order to open it you need to do right-click over the IMG-file, select "open with" and then select 7-zip - at least this is how it works for me...

I am able to open other img files but both persist images give me error. I am stuck with non working fingerprint

i have 8 pro indian variant running on OOS11 rooted and when i update my phone to oos11 everything fine everything working fine bt yesterday my fp sensor stopped working. I tried persist img backup and restore doesn't working and when i go to fp calibration test it gives me error "the application cannot reach the application" now what i do to get my fp back there's is any another option or i didn't doing my steps correctly? Help me because I'm not want to go the service center in my city there's no service center of one plus and I'm know this is a software issue not an hardware issue.

Try flashing ROM OOS 11 again..
May get lucky and it may straighten it out... I've seen crazier things happen.. LOL

Hi guys, i just got my OP8P yesterday and started playing around with it. I was really interested in the color filter camera and i really wanted to have this feature, but stupid me got excited when i saw the update for OOS 11 and updated. After i saw that the new updated filter had nothing to do with the previous one, i tried to downgrade to 10.5.8 (btw i have IN2023 europe version). After the downgrade the fingerprint was not working straight away from the first setup menu. Tried factory reset, upgrade to 10.5.9 nothing, factory reset again after upgrade then nothing, but when i did another factory reset and skipped the wifi connection and skipped the pin creation, i entered into settings and i could see the fingerprint option there once again. I didnt try to setup the fp straight away, first i created a PIN, and THEN i tried to use the fp and VOILA! It started working! I hope someone can try the same thing to see if that is a significantly easier way to fix it... Hope it helps.

Well I finally visited the local OnePlus service center after trying various suggestions like restoring the persist partition etc. , all of which failed to work and the finger print sensor was not working with the bootloader locked but used to work with it unlocked. The service center guy took less than 5 minutes to calibrate the finger print sensor using a calibration tool which he connected through the computer to the company server . It is working without any problem and no data was lost. He had brought up a service menu on the phone by dialling some codes and started the process from there
The phone as well as the calibration tool were connected to his computer. That is all I could see from the distance. Hope it helps someone.

Not really a stupid question at all, do the DD backup of the device, put it somewhere safe and sound. Then if FP ever screws up you have original Persist safe and sound to be fixed when needed
