Feel free to correct me if I am wrong about this, but instead of installing both Java JRE (Java Runtime Environment) version (32 & 64 bit) if we install the JDK (Java Development Kit) version it's the only version we need to install.

Java download page : Click here.

It's what I am doing and I never encounter a problem with that method.

In response of this :

Thank you for that awesome How-to guide!

My hTC Sync doesn't work either, for as long as I remember, I think it's driver related. If the drivers for USB mass storage and the ones for My HTC shows up in the Printer and other hardware, there is a conflict.

I can't remember how to fix it, I will try to locate the fix for it.
For those who are having problem with their HTC Sync, have a try at this method to install the correspondent drivers the right way.

Windows 7

To install the Android USB driver on Windows 7 for the first time:

- Download the correspondent drivers for your Windows 7 here.
- Extract them in a Folder and remember the path of this Folder.
- Connect your Android phone device to your computer's USB port.
- Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
- Select Devices in the left pane.
- Locate and expand Other device in the right pane.
- Right-click the device name or My HTC and select Update Driver Software. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software and click Next.
- Click Browse and locate where you extracted the USB driver folder, and select : androidusb.inf
- Click Next to install the driver.

Or, to upgrade an existing Android USB driver on Windows 7 with the new driver:

- Download the correspondent drivers for your Windows 7 here.
- Extract them in a Folder and remember the path of this Folder.
- Connect your Android phone device to your computer's USB port.
- Right-click on Computer from your desktop or Windows Explorer, and select Manage.
- Select Device Manager in the left pane of the Computer Management window.
- Locate and expand Android Phone in the right pane.
- Right-click Android Composite ADB Interface or My HTC and select Update Driver. This will launch the Hardware Update Wizard.
- Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations and uncheck Search removable media and check Include this location in the search.
- Click Browse and follow the path of your extracted USB drivers folder.
- Click Next to upgrade the driver.
- Reboot your computer and try HTC Sync.

Let us know if it worked for you.

To the OP sorry for the Hijack of your post and again, awesome thread!

Thanks a lot.

It really helps me!

I thought SDB platform was not friendly to new smartphone user, however through your great instructions with many photos, I am happy that I won't be afraid of that.
