[Guide] Get your MSL# on your Sprint SGS3

I use Terminal Emulator and type "getprop ril.MSL." It returns nothing. I then went to the dialer and entered a random 6 digit number when it asked for my MSL under the edit menu. Went back to Terminal and it still gave me nothing. I even tried with the Get my MSL app.

You need to be on an LJ7 Rom.

Finally got my MSL. I was running MOAR v5.0.1 rooted with SuperSU and nothing would get the number. This included running getmymsl from the Play store, entering wrong code and checking alogcat and running adb shell/msl commands with root access and the getprop ril.MSL command.

As a last ditch effort I took prboy1969's suggestion and flashed the stock JB 4.1.1 L710VPBLJ7 via Odin v.307

I logged in and ran getmymsl from the play store and voila, finally got my 6 digit MSL

Wrote it all down, reflashed MOAR w/ root and tested my MSL code. All is working and I was finally able to write a new PRL to my phone. So far so good.

I had my msl number and in the process of zeroing it out I zerod the esn and meid and now I can't use the original msl or the 000000 I tried to write to the s3. I have tried to do the same process but I had no luck

Here is the easiest way with any sprint phone. Activate it online and it's what they called the "programming code." I don't know if it will work if you are already activated. But if you have a backup phone. Activate that then activate your SG3 again.

Or the easiest way is to go to sprint.com Log into your account, select My Device tab, on the right click Change Phone Number, once you go through changing phone process it'll give you that unlock code along with your IMEI, you can have the option to email it to you! It's that easy

No msl luck

i bought a samsung sprint galaxy S3 used on ebay to flash to a different carrier. but i had no luck on getting the MSL. i had used CDMA workshop paid version DFS even the market apps GET MY MSL and nothing seems to give me the damn MSL. i ieven tryed to downgrade the software from JB to ICS to see if bringing down to an older software makes a different so i did doenloaded and ICS for this particular phone and once i hit start on ODIN it just goes to FAIL. i tought that maybe was a corrupted doenload so i redownloaded the older ICS again and tryed doing the same steps and once i hit start its just FAILS again. it seems like it doesnt let me downgrade or something. do i have to unlock anthing for me to downgrade from JB to and older ICS? becuase if that the case on my GS2 i dont have to unlock anthing i just down to GB or ICS with no problem. but this is my first sprint GS3 so i dont know if i have to do anything before downgrade in order for my to get the damn MSL. i just dont know why this companies make thing so dificult even though we purchase these expensive software the legal way and still we have a hard time to get some stupid 6 digit code..

thanks for the reply. well as i mentioned. i bought this phone with bad esn to flash it to boost. so thats why i cant call sprint.. let me take a screenshot to see what it has..

Got msl but i still cant downgrade

ok some how i was able to flash a custom recovery and i was able flashed a custom ROM than i was able to get the MSL suing GET MY MSL app..that way. but if i try to go the other way using the one click stock MD4 or any other older stock ROM and all i get its the same FAIL error on odin..

and on the cell phone screen says Fail (auth) and right bellow SW REV FUSED 1 >BINARY 0.

but if i flash the newest L710SPRCMK3_L710VPUCMK3 on odin it goes trought with no error or problems. i just dont know why it only happens when downgrading to older ones. its very anoying.. i have to keep restoring my phone with L710SPRCMK3_L710VPUCMK3 after i get those 2 error since my phone doesnt boot...

Looks like you received your phone with the Android 4.3 OTA already installed, and Knox security enforced. This OTA includes the Knox bootloader. This bootloader will not let you flash any bootloader prior to 4.3. Trying to flash a prior bootloader will brick your phone, as already reported by some unfortunate users.

thanks dcharleyultra. see i didnt know that. even though i tought i had to do with somthingsimilar but i wasnt sure if that was the case. but it makes sence now. i tought it was a defective phone or something. but i guess not. oh well i guess i have to wat for a root for this SPR-L710VPUCMK3 so that way i dont have to worry about downgrading in order to get root permitions. once again thanks..

You are welcome.

Some users have rooted the OTA using CF-Auto-Root. I forget if Knox was tripped when doing so. You can do some research here and on XDA.

After much searching, I've found the easiest method so far to get your MSL. Even works on the 4.3 update.

Download the Android MSL reader from here: http://tools.flashingtools.com/SPCUtility.apk

Install, then open and hit read SPC

HOLLY CRAPPPPPPP. even though h i already was able to get my MSL couple of days ago going true serius of steps . but just for hahas i decided to give this app a try since iam running the latest OTA on my phone and this app was able to read the MSL like nothing boooooommmmmmmmm.. CNexus you are a hero man. too bad i didnt find this app earlier.. iam keeping this app for future MSL aventures... thats for sure......... thankssssss

ok, so i went to flash my s3 awhile back at a local phone store; before i started reading on how to do myself. anyway i hit "update PRL" big mistake
now i have dfs and cdma flashing tools.
However on DFS, when i enter my SPC its says bad code. (im guessing when i had it flashed, the changed it to 000000) but DFS wont allow that password.
when i hit ##DATA# and Edit then enter 000000 --the code works on that menu. is there anyway to get the 000000 to work on DFS so i can fix my internet?
i can get on FB, but not on Craigslist, iFunny or a browser--on browsers(dolphin and stock) it directs me to manage.sprint.com
