OK - after a couple of attempts I have UrsaMinor installed. It's finicky, but I can get into the menu if I play around with the buttons. However, I do not have the Andromeda3.zip on the phones' sd card, so I need to get it there. I tried putting it on the external SD card, but I get an error when I try to mount it in ursa minor.

So, I figure I will just reboot the phone normally and put it directly onto the phone - BUT I am stuck at the URSA MINOR screen. How do I proceed to boot the phone? I've tried rebooting from the menu in URSA MINOR. I've popped the battery. but it still just sits at the ursa minor screen!
from the recovery menu, hit the mounts and storage option
MOUNT USB
then copy files from computer to phone.....

Upgrade from Andromeda 1.2 to 3

Hi, I have an i897, rooted, installed Andromeda 1.2 with Speedmod kernel. In this video you are using the UrsaMinor kernel. Does that means, I should go back to stock, root, and then install UrsaMinor before installing Andromeda 3 or can I just run Odin on top of my existing kernal and flash the UrsaMinor and then the ROM? Please help:confused:

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say thanks to AdamOutler and Pirateghost and everybody else on this thread. This was my first time flashing a kernel/ROM and I never would've been able to do it without the help from all your posts on this thread, along with your video. I researched many ROMs before deciding to go with Andromeda3. You guys definitely provide the most detailed instructions and best "customer support" that I've seen anywhere on XDA.

Ran into some problems trying to get my phone to communicate properly with the computer through ODIN3v1.7 --- kept hanging up on "Setup Connection" over and over and over again. Ended up with the PHONE--!--PC screen. What did the trick was removing the battery, SIM card, and SD card, waiting 10 seconds, and then plugging in and inserting the battery while holding the three buttons (with ODIN3 already running on my computer). The next time I hit START, UrsaMinor flashed and booted right up. From there, it was just as shown in the video to wait for lagfix activation, reboot into recovery, and install ROM from SD card.

Andromeda3 is looking pretty smooth so far. Highly recommended! Restoring my data now, then will continue on exploring the ROM. Again, thanks so much for all your help guys. You do great work -- keep it up!

- Pat

i can not get ursa minor to get past the loading screen now, when trying to enter recovery, phone powers off, then back to boot screen with no progress. Something else to try?
Hold volume up and down to get into recovery. Insert the battery with those keys and the usb cable attached to enter download.

Your amazingly quick at replying :D But I'm not sure i understand why i need to be in download mode again, i've done that and tried it, from there all i can do is flash it again (which i've tried) Then all that happens is I get back the ursa minor screen, and it still will not load past the intro screen or let me enter the recovery mode. I had problems with getting the andromeda file on my phone so i thought that partitioning it would do the trick, so i made a partition for 256mb and this is what has caused the halt in the loading screen, im not sure what to do, is there some way for me to bypass what i've done after i get it into the downloading screen?

Ive also downloaded the 160MB odin one click, and it isn't doing anything, i get the phone in download mode, and then i have tried both start and master clear and nothing happens, it freezes and nothing starts up. . . Now i'm officially lost

Thanks, just downloaded it. You never had a problem with it?

Second question.... would it be kosher to edit the "UrsaMinor.zip" package a little by updating it with some of the revisions from < http://code.google.com/p/teamkomin/source/list >?
Basically what I did was replace the 'zImage' file with r72; replace the 'modem.bin' with r74; and added the .apk's for 'Contacts', 'VoiceDialer', and 'Market' to the /data/app folder of the .zip package. Is this doable, or does this mess up other things, like the 'update-script' or 'redbend_ua' files?

Adam, is this the one-click method for Andromeda you've been working on? I unzipped everything and opened the front-end. I see that I could browse to input the 'zImage' and then the 'modem.bin'; and then if I hit START, will it only flash those two things? Or does this "inherently" flash a ROM with it? I can't seem to find the video you mentioned above.

after hours and hours of tinkering, i've finally got andromeda3 on with speed kernel, everything is good to go, but i haven't a sweet clue what to fill in for my apn fields, i've got mms and phone calls down but my wireless internet isn't working. What should i put in, Canadian Rogers customer btw
Check out post #469 on the Andromeda Q&A thread. A conversation begins there regarding the Rogers APN settings that will lead you back to post #440 of that thread or post #10 of this thread.
