I took a look around at various modems, and I can't decide on which one would be most right for me? I have no idea which one would work with andromeda, while trying to connect to a Rogers data network. Any recommendations?

If it helps, I noticed that my phone had UGJK4 installed as the modem already. It just isn't working.

In the OP of the Modem stickied thread use one of the I9000 modems. I recommend that u try the I9000UGKC1 (Froyo) first. Download the CWM2 version and copy to ur phone and go into recovery and install.

So far I've tried both the I9000UGKC1 modem and the I897UCKB1 modem (since my phone still registers as a I897 model) and I still am unable to access the internet. I followed the instructions on flashing a modem as best as I could, but I still don't get internet access. I don't even get the icon next to the phone signal bars stating 3G, when data is activated.
Any other suggestions? Would flashing to another Rom possibly work?

When u are running a Rom that has an i9000 kernel u have to match it with an i9000 modem. And if the Rom u choose has an i897 kernel then u have to have a i897 modem installed. If u mix match between i897 and i9000 u will have issues.

Never had a problem with that.. I run a i9000 modem daily.

Yeup, I ended up learning that the hard way, but I just flashed back to a recent restore of the ROM. I did some looking around on my own since I wrote that, and I'm going to try some more modems the correct way. Thanks for all the help though.

But the Rom u run has an i9000 kernel ? If so, then u shouldn't have any probs.
You don't seem to understand. There are two processors in your phone. They work separate. The modem is the software running on the call processor. The kernel is the software running on the Application processor. They don't have broad problems like you speak of. Maybe there was ONE and you should write it up.

My bad ...I may be wrong, but I've just always gone by what Devs and others have said to do concerning running i897 kernels with i897 modems & i9000 kernels with i9000 modems.--- i.e. They have got to match or there will be problems.
Here's some quotes from the Modem Sticky Thread OP... " A I9000 based kernel (reoriented) is required for the I9000 modems to be usable on the Captivate" and "I897UCKB1 (Froyo) *NOTE* Must be used in-conjunction-with a Captivate based kernel"

i think there is some confusion on what is trying to be relayed here.

For2ndtwin, you are correct. as the modem sticky thread indicates, you do need a kernel that matches a modem. you cannot mix an i897 kernel and an i9000 modem (or vice versa) and have both voice and data. you will get data but no voice.

Alright, well to give a bit of an update. I have since flashed to CM7, and right away I was able to get 3G access along with everything else. When I was on Andromeda, I was only able to text and call. I probably didn't try enough modems, but thanks to flashing to CM7 I now found the modem that should work for me. I've decided to try and keep everything I deal with I9000 for ease.

Thanks for the help everyone though! I might try flashing back to Andromeda (I liked this ROM better than CM7 anyways), and try the correct modem now.

*I managed to fix it on my own after a reset so, it's all good.*

Alright, so now that I finally flashed back to Andromeda I tried installing the modem that worked for me on CM7 (T959TLJL3) and I still don't get data with Andromeda. What could be going wrong?

Hi, i have two questions that i cant find answerd yet.

1. I was checking http://files.teamkomin.com/ and saw that u have there the AIO captive tool for download, do u recommend use AIO to flash to stock or recover from an error flashing as happened in the video or odin one click?

2. Im w8ing for the arrival of a jig that i bougth to recover my phone from a soft-brick (tried all kind of methods to get into download), what i should do after get into download mode? Recover as you in the video using odin one click? Use ur tool One click unsoft brick? Or flash to stock with AIO? I just dont do a bigger mess like hard brick my phone.

Maybe some question are in the wrong section but i need some help here.

1. AIO is a good tool for some. I've personally never tried it. I use Linux, not Windows.

2. use whatever tool you'd like. Heimdall, Odin, AIO... as long as it gets you there.

Hi again adam, i just fixed my phone but i had a problem installing andromeda. I did this following the video steps: i got into download mode and flashed to stock (2.1),debug mode on, rooted, installed rom manager (to go into recovery by my button problems), open odin 1.7 and installed Ursa minor, i waited and installed without problems, phone reboot itself, at&t screen, usra minor screen, the voice said something about lagfix like and u video and that is it. I left the phone alone about 15min and nothing, same screen (ursa minor). I had to flash back to stock again, what i did wrong? I need have stock 2.2 for this method? Can i install andromedra3 first and then ursa minor kernel? I wanted ask before try again.

you flashed a 2.2 kernel on a 2.1 rom...thats why it wouldnt boot

if you were already on 2.1, you did NOT need to odin flash a kernel, just install clockwork recovery and reboot to recovery, proceed to flashing the rom
