sorry but you will have to describe your problem better.

i think you are saying you have a i897 captivate, but installed i9000 software which didnt work.. obviously. And now you are on gingerbread stock KF1, which would be correct.

what problem are you having now??

i researched how to go back to stock to take the problems off and return to operation of the phone, and now I'm simply trying to install a rom, because of the changes I made , the unregistered device firmware kies shows, is it because of the root? and ...And I followed the tutorial to try to flash custom rom, but when I was going to install ClockworkMod, the power button “ok” didn’t work (installed Superuser too). And when I install Rom manager there’s no captivate option, that’s the problem.DID I DO SOMETHING THAT I SOULDN’T? Or what I did is disturbing the roms installation?

I'm confused, could you please guide me how to install the Cm9 and a good kernel.
I'm afraid that it has "bricked" or that other defect happens in the equipment.

what do you think I should do first?

This guide does not require rooting for clockWorkMod recovery.

Read the first post and use those instructions. if you don't follow those instructions I'm not going to help you

my samsung captivate doesnt recognised by odin

this is Ravi kumar.
I m using samsung captivatei897..froyo..
previously one time during flashing with odin, my phone is bricked..
at that time i used hemidall oneclick stock froyo package..
then works fine..
then flashed with hemidall oneclick stock gingerbred kh3 package..
then i got cmw...
so then onwards i flashed with so many custom roms via cmw..
recently,
my phone doesnt recognised by odin when put in download mode..
it is recognised when its on...
i dont know what happened..
now i came back to stock froyo..
by using heimdall 1.1.1, i flashed speedmod kernal, then via cmw i flashed cyanogenmod...
but my phone is become slow while scrolling.,
opening any application, and lost its smoothness while drawing apps,screens..
pls guide to wipe off all data regarding all about kernals, modems from my phone..
bring back my captivate as earlier...
&what about odin???

When you use heimdall, Odin will work no longer work on that USB port.

heimdall and Odin use different drivers. Plug your phone into a different USB port code and Odin will work again....

To clear all the data off your phone boot into CWM and select "factory reset". But that isn't your problem your problem is that you're running froyo...

I highly suggest that you start reading more before more flashing because most of your questions are very basic things...

This guide is for installing custom ROMs not stock ROMs. stock roms are garbage

my phone doesn't boot

Is it necesary to flash a rom through recovery? because my phone is not booting. i used the hemidall method and flashed the kernel and the gb bootloaders and it seemed to work but the phone is not booting... im sure i've never flashed the gb bootloader nor any gb rom but in case i flashed the bootloaders a second time what are the consequences?

Download mode and three button combo have nothing to do with the kernel. it is all in your head, always has worked and it always will. Period.

The green screen it's because you don't have the gingerbread bootloaders.

question

I used the Heimdall Method (Any OS), and it worked perfectly, the thing is that now i'm having wifi issues because of the modem, so i need to know which modem is flashed during this procedure so i can flash it back

modem is not causing your wifi issues. kernel probably. or the rom.

you can find what modem you have by looking in Settings > About > Phone Info. > Baseband #########

baseband is modem.

i hope whatever you read that you think you are doing was about this phone. all are not equal.

Thanks for your response... i'm still having the wifi issue after trying several roms, kernels and modems. I'm not getting any issue with other devices so i don't think its the router. I really have no clue of what else could I do. Im gonna try with a different router anyway.

Man... For whatever reason, whenever I try to flash the speedmod kernel, it just doesn't work. Neither Heimdall nor Odin seem to work. Heimdall actually fails, Odin just sits there. Hours and hours. And eventually I have to give up, and then get the stupid little icon and it won't boot up. Still get to download mode, thankfully, and can eventually get back to stock, but GRRR this is frustrating. Why won't speedmod kernel install?

Edit - on the plus side, at least Heimdall Front End's "Close PC Screen" seems to work :)

Aaaand 17th time's a charm? Lol. Tried the command line Heimdall to flash the speedmod kernel and that seemed to do the trick. Now, to move on to the next steps. Lol

Might want to invest in a new or at least different micro usb/usb cord. Because that in itself (cord actin up, etc.) is the cause of problems like u had and others have experienced as well. See the "Captivate Connection Issues..." stickied thread in the General forum for info about this issue and other great helpful advice.

(no hijack intended TRusselo)
