possibly but you would only have to flash an older kernel that does support them to restore them, so they wouldnt be useless.
By flashing another kernel you mean flashing another rom? Like the andromeda3 I have right now?possibly but you would only have to flash an older kernel that does support them to restore them, so they wouldnt be useless.

I use ubuntu. In the end I had to use this guide from AdamOutler. Really cool since it formatted everything back to stock, the filesystem and everything and from there I could do what I needed to do. Thanks.and unless you are running mac or linux.... why the hell wouldnt you use odin????
Thanks for the hint but I ended up using a completely different method. I went to the Cyanogenmod Wiki and I found the step by step instructions for installing CWM and it worked like a charm. I installed the latest stable CM7 and now i'm waiting for a stable CM9 or 10.Simple. Spend a few days reading. Having someone tell you what to do will not help you understand what you are doing.
I'll give you one hint : Odin

i flashed it because people said, that everything was excellent, but i found so many bugs, that it is not worth...Captivate is not i9000...
No jelly bean Rom is out of beta...
If you want everything to work flash a Rom made for your phone and isn't beta
Or check your apn settings...

having trouble booting into recovery. any guaranteed way to do it?Boot into recovery and flash a different rom. you got in a boot loop because you're kernel does not match your ROM
