Hey TRusselo, I'm having a bit of a problem in flashing. I'm new to the whole flashing/rooting thing so bear with me. I rooted using superOneClick then installed ROM manager and attempted to installed ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2 from there. I ran into an issue when installing:

-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Search the forums to resolve this brought me to your guide. I did everything in the ODIN METHOD up to step 11. But when I attempt step 12, there is no option to "select flash zip from SD card". Did I do something wrong?

Phone details:
Model #: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Firmware version 2.2
Baseband Version: I897UCKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build #: FROYO.UCKB1

First, Rom manager does not support captivate. But now that you have followed the guide... you should be looking at cwm recovery, it should say, clockwork mood recovery at the top, and the writing should be green if i remember correctly, the second option down should be "flash zip from sdcard", the first option being reboot device.

Oh, it doesn't? Strange then, i saw a another highly recommended guide in this sub forum that spoke of using it to install CWM. When i boot into recovery mode it doesn't say clockwork mod recovery at the top, it says 'Android system recovery'. So that my be an indication that it didn't install in the first place. Any ideas on what I may have done wrong? I followed your guide to the step.

-- Edit --
Looks like i figured out what was wrong. The phone was never recognized by my PC, i was using the USB ports at the front of my machine rather than the port on my mobo.

Just a tip TRusselo that you should mention in your guide, when using odin, the device must be seen by it first which is indicated by filling the the box below ID:COM. Also, at the end of each step should show a green success notification.

Thanks for your guide man! It's great!

Captivate 3e recovery procedure

Baseband i897UCKF1
Firmware 2.3.4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-i897uckh3-cl461307
Build number Gingerbread.uckh3

Unlocked from ATT to TMobile using hex editor on nv_data.bin file

Problem: Microphone stopped working. So, I thought I would try Ice Cream Sandwhich and see if that fixes the mic. However, 3e recovery doesn't allow installation.

The instructions at the start of this thread say "find a neat-o ROM." Is that just the regular old saying "neat-o" or is that actually technical jargon for some specific type of rom? You never know when you're new when a word is a word or when it's something else. For this step, can I use "ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Captivate.zip"?

I will skip steps 4-6 because Gingerbread is running.

And now, it would appear I have managed to unroot the phone. Hitting the 3e recovery problem trying to re-root it. More studying ahead. Meanwhile, if there's a fix I missed for this microphone problem, I'd like to know so I can just skip the whole ICS upgrade.

Yes I neat o ROM is any rom you think is neat... Especially considering the title of the thread is flash ANY rom.

I had no idea what ROM "ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Captivate.zip" is, that is a filename not the name of the Rom, having issues installing it I would consider reading the first post of that ROM.

As for the microphone issue I have never heard or come across it except when the device is broken.

Hey, thanks a lot for responding. I've been through some interesting adventures, but basically back to where I was, except 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.4.
I'll start reading again, but just for reassurance, it is possible (given proper reading) to get around the 3e thing and load ICS? I tried speedmod kernel i897-500hz.tar, and then went to the ICS tar file mentioned above on the SD card. If you don't recognize that ICS file, then maybe that's where things went off the tracks. Phone just began to reboot in the middle of decompressing files. It would say "google" in the middle of the screen, start decompressing stuff and then reboot.

Does it sound reasonable to repeat the steps, but find an ICS file with a better pedigree? I have a feeling you're right, that my mic problem is hardware, but strange it came after unlocking which was same experience for a few other folks.

Unfortunately it's too late now but there's an app on the Google play market that will unlock your captivate if you are rooted....

Try and flash aokp ( android open kang project ) it's one of the best ROMs around in my opinion

just when i collect a bluetooth headset, it gets connected, but it has no sound and it only connects to "phone audio" doesn't have the choice of "media audio"
i've tried reboot, but that doesn't work either

oh, the bluetooth was working fine before i root to this rom

This is a Guide thread. Not a Rom thread.
There may be a Q & A thread specific to ur Rom u flashed in the Q & A forum. If not, then maybe search a little within the Rom thread of the Rom u flashed.
What did u flash anyway ?? If u want help u gotta give more info and in the appropriate thread. Thx
