The only thing that can really happen is that your IMEI changes. In any case, you should have a backup of your efs folder for a quick fix.i usually dont care about removing SD card and SIM before flashing any rom. I havent gotten any problem yet, but if there are consequences, then i want to know. Can someone tell me about them ?
What specific rom ?Just used the Odin method to update both my phone & my wife's phone.
Both are Rogers SGH-i896.
Both were running GB, now they are both running [ROM][4.2.1]Captivating (Xperia Themed)[V7.4].
Thanks for you work in putting together the instructions, and everybody involved in the custom ROMs!
Did you go through this sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843I bought my i897 Captivate "build 1010", phone has serious issues, but for now I just want to get it to stock eclair (jf6). Ive looked everywhere for the files..all seen to be gone. I have tried the one click, bricked my phone like 6 times. Tried the jf6_secure.tar, BRICKED! Tied just about everything. Only thing that works is the Hiemdall jar file UCKB2, but that gets it to froyo, and i need stock rom for all the other issued this phone has. So if anyone could help I would gladly appreciate it. Whether it be the tar and pit file combo (which i cant find anywhere) , or any suggestions.
Thanks in advance AL.
EDIT: This is more so i can get to use the cellphone, because it wont let me make any outgoing calls.

And what do you mean by bricked? Brick = phone is dead.. There's what we call soft-brick, where the phone doesn't fully boot but can get in download mode.
Also, you can't use Heimdall and Odin on the same USB port as Heimdall installs its own drivers (making Odin unusable on that port).
Instead of flashing JF6, I would flash KK4 (in the 3rd post of that sticky) with bootloaders. But if you go through with this, be aware that flashing bootloaders is risky. Make sure it doesn't get interupted!
It is not going to boot (or at least I never tried to boot after I flashed the speed mod kernel) it is meant for you to boot in to cwm and flash the root.zip file and then flash any ROM you want!Hello,
Want to ask, after I flashed the speedmod kernel, my phone seems to get stuck at the boot screen. Any solutions?
Both were running Rogers stock 2.3.x.What specific rom ?
Thank you so much don't really have the money to send out my cappy to get fixed at the moment!
No money needed! Use the options in the "Download Mode" part of the post. Power button not needed. Each dash and sentence represents a method to try so try #1 first: "- Insert battery, then press and hold Vol+ and Vol-, then insert your USB cable."Thank you so much don't really have the money to send out my cappy to get fixed at the moment!
Sent from outer space with the power of ANDROID! ^_^
ok, no touch. another question, for a downgrade (cyanogen 10 to stock 2.3.5) , the kernel is installed first selecting pda too?The instructions (I wrote) don't say anything about selecting any options... don't touch them.
Select tar file in pda,
Click start
