I am running stock gingerbread on a Rogers Samsung captivate. I want to put the ice cream sandwich rom on this phone but I need clockwork recovery. I tried to put clockwork recovery on my phone through Rom Manager but it did not work due to an error: signature failure. Please help...point me to which kernel I have to flash my phone with using ODIN thank you

ANY kernel with cwm 3 4 or 5 will let you start the instructions for ICS.
or use the search for " captivate signature verification" find the 10000000 threads about it.
or read the links in my signature (below) for "3e recovery fix" then you wont get "signature verification failed"

also make sure to read the new user guide in my sig, and watch the vid.,

Please bear me with, I'm a beginner. Can I temporarily run Froyo with a Gingerbread bootloader, or do I have to immediately flash a Gingerbread ROM?

I've used cwm before, but it would only work when I put it on my sdcard's root dir and renamed it to update.zip. Does the GB bootloader + easycwm 'permanently' install cwm on my phone?

I also have a question about your stock, debloated KK4 ROM. What version of Corn Kernel is it running? Will everything work fine if I follow your guide (GB bootloader, flash your KK4 ROM) and then install the latest Corn Kernel (if the included version isn't the latest) + Thunderbolt?

it says about gingerbread bootloaders that there is never any reason to downgrade. Gingerbread bootloaders work fine with any rom.

the update.zip type of cwm is the OLD cwm.. rom manager doesnt support the captivate with gingerbread... there is no way to perminately have cwm. bootloaders have nothing to do with cwm.
CWM is built-in to all custom kernels. so the update.zip isnt needed if you have a custom kernel.

it has an older version of corn yes, dont remember what version. ANY 2.3.5 kernel will work with any 2.3.5 rom, so you will have no problem upgrading.

Step 6 of the Heimdall guide to flashing Easy CWM and Bootloaders failed me. My screen went crazy with weird colors and I heard a robot sounding voice giving an estimated time. Now my phone does an infinite boot loop with crazy colors.

I'm trying to flash back to a stock UCKB2 ROM right now (the same ROM I was using while I tried to flash Easy CWM/Bootloader by TalonDev.) Looks like it's working so far.

Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?

Yup, the stock ROM flashed back fine. I tried the Easy CWM + GB Bootlaoder thing again and it gave me crazy colors and infinite boot loop again.

DONT let it boot.boot straight into recovery. that kernel isnt made for the rom you have installed.
boot STRAIGHT into recovery, before the voice. then flash rom.

not sure about the "crazy colors"

Oh, that would probably do it.

I entered download mode, the kernel flashed, then my phone rebooted itself and the robot voice started talking with the crazy colors on my screen (kind of like a visual artifact or improperly installed video card drivers on a desktop computer.) How do I boot straight into recovery when that happens?

The "crazy" colors sounds like what happens when u try to run a i897 Gingerbread Rom without the Gingerbread Bootloaders... or possibly a param.lfs file without a jpeg image in it or messed up some kind of way.

odin works PERFECT for me. Windows automatic driver downloading works perfect for me...

Agreed... and I have not had any problems using Odin. Have been curious about the Heimdall, but haven't ventured there yet.

you have to uninstall your drivers and install it's drivers. it is all done within heimdall, but still a pain. you cant use both.
That's only partially true. Unlike Odin/Kies, installing drivers for Heimdall will only affect one port at a time. In which case if you install Heimdall after Odin you can easily use both by simply swapping USB ports. If you install Kies/Odin after Heimdall then it will clobber Heimdall's driver and you'll have to reinstall it.

Thank you guys.Ok i give it a try, yeah i was wondering armani based roms should work fine this is why i wanna try the andromeda roms. One other thing, if i flash it succesfully, i wanna try to install speedmod kernel, but just becasue 2thing the sharpness fix,and OC tuning, these two feature good to risk the custom kernel install?
