If you flash the rom in the link you can skip activation then set up your google account when you have wifi
Alright thanks for the tutorial. I'll try it once my phone updates back to RC33 from RC29. How long does it take to get the automatic update notification?
ummmm don't really know i have read that it shouldn't take more than 72 hours
don't know, it should unless that is an update that has been pushed out since this method was devised (check date of creation of OP), just try it, if it doesn't work then nothing will happen (in theory)
Oh I forgot to tell you I messed up my only sd card somehow and theory is its not working because I'm running on RC29 so ill just have to wait for the automatic update. Unless there is a way to manually search for new updates with the G1 itself.

you can try settings, about phone, i think there is a check for updates option, maybe lol. if you have a card reader see if you can reformat it with the card reader, or if you have another device with an sdcard slot and see if you can format it from there.
No card reader but ill try to format it when its not 5 am lol cause right now I'm on my g1 in bed cause I can't sleep. Ill post whether it works or not tomorrow.

How long have you hung at the first screen, if you reboot can you get back into recovery, the first screen takes up to 5 min to get past and the second up to another 10 for the intial boot since it is writing itself and running it's scripts

Is this your first type, are we popping your phone cherry, if so reboot back into recovery, do a wipe and than reflash the rom, reboot and walk away for 20 minutes. Come back and see the welcome screen
