Thanks for all the hard work on the odin one step, but I had a problem.

I just rec. the phone (sgh i777) from ebay that looked completely stock and running uckh6. Kies told me not eligable for update though and so I flashed to I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL via odin one step figuring that the stock kernal had been modified someway and needing to get to the point that Kies would give me the official ICS.
Everything went smoothly on flashing and the phone operates great except that the wifi is no longer working. It will turn on and scan but then turns itself off.
Also Kies no longer gives me the message that I cant upgrade...it now states that I have the latest firmware, LOL. I would really like to get the official ICS release on this thing, but at the very least I need to get wifi back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.......
Losing wifi is a know issue. When you flash back to UCKH7, you have to do a wipe data/factory reset in 3e recovery to get wifi working again.

Kies won't upgrade you from UCKH7. You have to do an OTA update to UCKK6 first, then the kies update to ICS.

Or... you could just flash the stock rooted UCLE5 ICS firmware with Odin from here. Please read the OP thoroughly. You should do a wipe data/factory reset first before you flash the ICS firmware, since it is not recommended to do a wipe with the stock UCLE5 ICS kernel.

Everything went just as you said (almost) I did the reset and got back wifi. I then did an OTAupdate and got uckk6
Kies still says that my version is not able to be updated via kies though.

samsung-sgh-I777
android version 2.3.6
baseband I777UCKK6
Kernel 2.6.35.7

Does anything pop out to you? Is the Kernel correct for Kies? Forgive me, im clueless about this.

@creepyncrawly
I went ahead and flashed to ics via this site and your link.
I read the entire OP carefully. I understand I now need a known safe Kernel?

The phone states this currently
kernel version 3.0.15-I777UCLE5-CL652575
[email protected] #3

Can you point me in a good direction for a noob? Appreciate all your hard work on this stuff....glad you guys can do it, cause I certainly can't, LOL I would have a drawer FULL of bricks!!

I have no idea why you can't upgrade through kies. I've never used it myself. So I'm afraid I can't suggest anything there.

Is there some reason you don't want to flash the ICS distribution with Odin? That firmware package is exactly the same as the one that kies puts on your phone, except that superuser.apk and the su binary are packaged into the system partition. If what you want is ICS without root, you can flash that, then use a root file explorer to delete "/system/app/superuser.apk" "/system/bin/su" and "/system/xbin/su'. Reboot and you'll be straight stock, just like you upgraded with kies.

I now see the link to your thoughts on that situation with ucle5, which sounds logical to me. It seems like it is not worth it to change kernels again....but who knows what happened in that isolated incident.

Even if you never intend to install a custom firmware, there might be some advantage to flashing a custom kernel. Besides the fact that it contains ClockworkMod Recovery, which allows you to customize your phone if you choose, the custom kernel also contains many tweeks and improvements over the stock kernel, which do things like improve battery life, etc.

Everything went well until the innitial phone setup. I get this "Sorry! The application Google Services framework (procecss.com.google.process.gapps.) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." error. Several similar errors pop up as well, and I cannot proceed through the set up process. Any ideas?

EDIT: Looked at the 4e recovery data wipe, fine now. Thanks! :)

Understood. I know better to ask which one is better, etc. etc. because I know they all have their strengths and weaknesses. So I'll try to carefully ask then which one might most people suggest as a rock solid one for a noob?

Bailey,

All phones adapt to certain kernels differently. That being said depending on the ROM you choose, if any, you may need to just try a few out of a couple of days and pick the one that you have the best experiences with.

Sounds good. I actually see that I really dont like ICS all that much and I loose a bit of battery life as well. So I just reverted back to gingerbread uckk6. After all that, LOL but I have already learned a lot so it was worth it. I still want to try a different Kernal though for this stock rom... I did find it odd that the phone did not hold root when I went back. So now I need to root it again first.

Hello,
I got a warranty replacement on my SGH-i777 from AT&T today and it came with the Samsung 4.0.3 version (i777UCLE5, Build IML74K.CLE5) and was wondering if I should flash my phone back to stock (I am running PA 2.14) I took it to the AT&T store and they just got me set up for a warranty replacement because my power button broke *in*. So tell me what you guys think I should do. I got 9 days to send it back or I get a $200 U-OWE-ME from AT&T. :(

The one you're sending back should be returned to stock for your peace of mind. I don't think it matters which stock version you use. There's always a chance that they will charge you if you send it back customized.

I also have this problem. However, I am having trouble booting into recovery mode. My phone is plugged in ( and it always thinks it is due to a usb port malfunction). I hold the power and two volume buttons but I immediately see download mode, not recovery mode nor galaxy s2 homescreen. All the button combinations I've tried have resulted in download mode, not recovery mode.

Can anybody help me get into recovery mode? I am very curious as to how trantacular did it, as we had the same initial problem.

edit: other threads show that cleaning the usb port and fixing the usb port malfunction is the solution. I am trying to do this now. The irony is that this is the reason i am trying to return to stock to claim warranty.
solved: unplug your battery. then immediately hold the buttons right after you plug in the battery.
edit: also, the usb problems (phone thinks it's always charging) resolved after recovery. very happy about that!

Wanting to try this on my son's phone. Getting that "voltage too high, charging paused" error that seemed to crop up after rooting and upgrading to this stock ICS :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650948

I want to go back to stock for him and do a warranty claim as I think there is an issue with his USB port anyway. It's always been finicky. My question is I've read that jig is for 2.3.4 GB or earlier but the phone came with 2.3.6 so would I be able to use the jig, and flash one of entropy512's stock one clicks in ODIN ? Which one would I use 2.3.6 or 2.3.5 ? Just want to get this sucker back to stock and see if it helps this crazy error. Thanks !

I am assuming your son's phone is an I777 and not I727? Please make sure before you flash this.

The USB jig will work with the Gingerbread firmwares, and probably with ICS and JB as well. I'm not aware that Samsung introduced any modified bootloaders with any official release, and the developers usually don't include bootloaders, so the phone should have the original bootloader, which will allow a jig to reset the counter.

I'm not aware of a 2.3.6 stock firmware. To get 2.3.6, you could flash Entropy512's UCKK6 plus root package and then use a root file explorer to remove root manually. Or you could just flash the UCKH7 2.3.4 stock firmware. I don't think it really matters for warranty. BTW, there was never a 2.3.5 for the I777.

Yes its a i777. The i727 is the skyrocket, wife has that one. I guess I was mixed up on the 2.3.5 because some of the flash to stock posts said to flash 2.3.5 or 2.3 6.

All the sites for USB jigs like mobile tech videos say they only work on 2.3.4 but I assume we all still use GB boot loaders. I'm actually wanting to flash back to stock and clear flash counter and root with mobile Odin so I don't trip the counter and get him on SHOstock. This phone just scares me because of the greater possibility of a brick compared to my cappy.

So I clear the flash counter, then flash entropy512's uckk6 and remove root manually with root explorer and then follow the walkthrough from creepycrawly to root again ? Its seems odd to flash ROM's in mobile Odin but I guess it works.
